Will You Buy a Ticket to Space? [Jeffrey Tucker]Dear Daily Prophecy Reader, On March 3, 1919, William Boeing kicked off the first international mail route (US to Canada), as serviced by his company and its wonderful new plane, the Boeing-1. You would never board it today, but it was spectacular at the time. Soon, the company won a contract to deliver mail for the US government. That was a decade and a half after the Kittyhawk flight of the Wright brothers. William, however, had other ambitions. He wanted to see commercial flight for pure passengers to be a real thing. He was hardly alone in hoping for this future. So he fixed up the place with a couple of seats and thus, it began. In World War I, planes were used for fighting and were inseparably linked to heroism and grave danger. Shoot or be shot. Take the other plane down or go down yourself. Such epic drama. As a kid I bought models of all these planes, hung them all over my room, and had pretend dog fights. I even read the autobiographies of the heroic pilots. They were the first real books that I read. On reflection, I think I was amazed by all this WWI drama simply because of the national excitement over the moon landing. Defying gravity, conquering new frontiers, making machines that allow humans to perform better than anything in nature – it’s exactly what a kid wants to believe is possible. It embodies the hopes we have about our own lives. [Will this weird device be in your home soon?]( Billionaire in Space The world of aviation and the progress associated with it has been central to the imagination of the modern age. Manned flight was something of which was dreamed for centuries, but only became a viable reality in the early 20th century. That sense that we could achieve the impossible with enough dreaming, engineering, time, and finance was ultimately behind the space program — until its public-sector domination led to throttling of innovation and ultimately boredom. That’s when private entrepreneurs got involved. They have brought back the excitement, that sense of unmitigated joy and awe in that of which humans are capable. The[stunningly beautiful]( of the Blue Origin captured it all, and truly made history. And this comes a week after Richard Branson also flew to zero gravity in the VSS Unity. What that means for July 2021 is that it marks a new age of private commercial space flight as the next stage of aviation development. While I’m very happy for Jeff Bezos, I don’t think the optics looked good for him or the flight. This is a man who became incredibly wealthy, not only from his thrilling company, but also because the same company thrived during the lockdowns that Bezos’ own company pushed and defended for the better part of 16 months (probably to push a political vendetta against Donald Trump). So the symbol of Bezos the billionaire flying to space and looking down on the brutalized workers and peasants back on earth is not a good look in general. It will surely feed resentment. That said, this will be temporary. The innovation here will proceed apace and ultimately achieve something mighty for everyone, given enough time. How long will it take? Progress used to happen more quickly than it does now, mostly due to all the barriers regulations put in the way. Maybe this will help open up the market more. The flight certainly represents the triumph of private enterprise over government planning. It was a private rocket, private funding, private range, private engineers, and private citizens. That is the real takeaway here. 5G: Buyers Remorse [Person looking at phone]( people with 5G phones are facing the harsh truth - their phones aren’t receiving 5G signals consistently… and keep slipping back to 4G. The good news is there is a breakthrough new technology that will work with 5G phones, 4G phones, and even outdated 3G phones. And it has advantages that 5G can never have. [To know more about what the future of smart phones and internet, Click Here.]( [This New Technology is about to reach “Critical Mass”]( Van Horn, Texas The flight took place in Van Horn, Texas, the area around which to many first-time visitors must have looked like what they imagine to be the terrain of Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. There is something hilarious to me about all these reporters encountering rural West Texas for the first time. It can feel truly like a highly dangerous middle of nowhere. Please indulge one more story from my childhood. My family often drove from El Paso to other parts of Texas and always passed through this small town. We all recalled it because it was the marker at which Mountain Time changed to Central Time, so we had to adjust our watches. The town is a metropolis now as compared with then, but in those days it approached being nearly desolate. My father pointed out that the commercial spots in town all had hilariously generic names. Gas Station. Restaurant. Bank. Bar. He was right, and it was so strangely hilarious. So it’s all a bit astonishing that this inauspicious place has become globally famous – yet another sign that the poor and weak can be mighty and great with the right amount of work and good fortune. That’s the American story right there in a nutshell. When Does the Future Get Here? The trajectory of flight in the late part of the 20th century did not go as planned. The point of all this innovation in the past was not just about achieving something; it was about distributing the gains of innovation to the whole population in a democratic fashion. So the planes of WWI were eventually refitted to become the spectacular commercial flight industry, emancipating humanity to travel anywhere within a budget. At some point, it seemed as if chartered private flights would become more common. It seems like this should have happened already. Instead of devolving into consumption all classes as technologies are supposed to do, it has remained a luxury of the rich (or Texas Democrats fleeing their jobs). When ride-sharing apps came along there was hope that the same would happen with private pilots wanting to give rides here and there, but the FAA intervened and throttled that market too. If we had smooth development in the commercial industry, we should have been able to hail a private plane by now and be picked up at our house to take us to the airport. I’m not asking for flying cars at this point, just some way to avoid the despotic environments of commercial airplane terminals. But it is not to be, not for a long while. Same with the demonstration of private manned space travel. Sadly, it will likely be another generation before you can viably snag a ticket to the realm of the suborbital. But just knowing that the prospect is there somehow lifts the spirit in dark times.
