[Jeffrey Tucker]Dear Daily Prophecy Reader, It’s like this strangely recurring nightmare. A new virus, a new variant, terrifying claims with data to back them up, and a new push for lockdowns. I never would have imagined it but that is exactly where we are today, just 16 months after this new rationale for ending your freedom was visited upon the world at large. And here we are, yet again. If you are paying attention – and probably you are better off not to – you already know all about the Delta Variant. [NPR]( [ABC]( [Yahoo]( [Bloomberg]( [Guardian]( [New York Times]( [Washington Post]( and the whole apparatus of mainstream media, has been going on about this for days. You know by now that you can get gangrene, hearing loss, and goodness knows what else. It is more transmissible than previous strains of the Coronavirus. Dr. Fauci himself is deeply alarmed, and this is the man who claims to be The Science. “The Delta variant currently accounts for more than 6% of the sequenced cases in the United States.” Look at the UK! “We cannot let that happen in the United States,” he gravely warned. What precisely are “we” supposed to do about this? Mask up, lock down, cancel trips, and hide in homes again? That was his glorious solution last year. Except there is not one shred of evidence that his beloved “public health measure” did anything to slow, much less stop the virus. [Will this weird device be in your home soon?]( Virus Deja Vu The variant is real. I’m not doubting that. But I’m suspicious of the timing of the seeming attempt to whip up public frenzy. All this just as the US has almost fully opened up (California is still a mess of course). It’s not insane to think that this relentless drumbeat about the Delta Variant is designed to warm us up for another attack on our right to be free. As for the grim side effects, we’ve heard all this for longer than a year. We were told a thousand things (lives on surfaces, it’s a grave danger to kids, you can commonly pass it on without knowing you have it, etc.) that turned out later to be false. All this stuff makes for great headlines but is it science? Is it true? And here’s another thing that makes for a great headline: more lockdowns in China! Yep, the same day of the media explosion about the Delta Variant, our friends at the New York Times [published]( a monumental piece on more lockdowns, this time in the city of Guangzhou in the Southern province of Guangdong. Travel is again banned, people locked in their homes, everyone being tested, positive tests go to quarantine, and so on. So much for the idea that China licked the virus the first time. If these tactics are so good, why do they keep having to deploy them? Also, deep in the NYT article we find that they have discovered only 157 cases, which is 0.0001% of the province's population. For that, they lock down? Are We Being Trolled? Indeed they do, just like in Wuhan a full year and a half ago. We followed that on the news, and then our own government managers tried the same system on the US. Then while the US was on lockdown, there were mass parties and fun taking place in Wuhan, as if to laugh at our stupidity. If you believe the data, China’s GDP grew 8% plus in 2020, while the US economy was wrecked. If you wanted to hatch a plan to panic the West into wrecking their economies, you might play off fears of disease and addiction to pharmaceuticals and urge an immediate end to free enterprise. It would be a brilliant plan. Whether that was the intention or not, that is precisely what happened. Need Extra Money? $6 Trillion May Be on the Way [Smiling man with cash]( record-breaking $6 trillion-dollar budget proposes to pump more government money into the U.S. economy than at any time since World War II. Will you be ready to grab some of it as it flows down? If you’ve ever dreamed of kissing that job you hate goodbye – or earning a great side income – there has never been a better time. Big societal shifts during the past year mean big opportunities abound. But only to those in the know. [And here’s what you need to know.]( A Short Lesson in Viruses To see through all of this, we need some clear guidance from an actual expert. I nominate the famed epidemiologist Sunetra Gupta, who has written a short but brilliant work on the topic called [Pandemics: Our Fears and the Facts](. It’s two bucks on Kindle and worth every penny. Just a few points from the book in the briefest-possible form. 1. For respiratory viruses like this, there is a trade off between severity and prevalence. The more infectious a bug is, the less likely are its severe outcomes. The reverse is also true. A killer bug like Ebola doesn’t possess the skill to travel far because it kills the host. So when you hear about a germ that is 40% more transmissible, you can make an educated guess that it is not as dangerous. You would be right most of the time. 2. Every virus has its own peculiar properties, most of which have to do with its ability to mutate in various ways. Gupta uses the metaphor of a wardrobe. Some have just one change of clothing, so they are easier to control through vaccines. Smallpox and polio are like this. But others such as Malaria have a full wardrobe of clothing, and they are constantly mutating, which is why there is no vaccine for this. These coronaviruses fall somewhere in between, which is why the vaccine can be effective for one strain but iffy for others. 3. Perhaps the most important point in the book, and the one that was completely unchallenged until this last year, is that viruses and other pathogens are part of the world around us and always have been. We evolved to deal with them via our immune systems. It is utterly bizarre that we’ve heard so little about this topic for a year in which we wrecked the world in the name of virus control. 4. As a general rule, and especially for widespread and largely mild viruses, natural immunity is safer and more broadly effective than a narrowly targeted vaccine – a point that if posted on Twitter right now risks your banning from the platform, even though study after study are proving that very point now. 5. The most reliable method of controlling severe outcomes from pathogens is the tried-and-true method of exposure to the mildest form of them, which thereby trains the immune system to block the more dangerous versions. As an example, she cites the Avian bird flu: none of the victims of this virus belonged in professions most exposed to chickens and other carriers. It’s likely because they already developed the antibodies. The implication here is remarkable: the worst possible path to dealing with viruses, and the one most likely to result in long-run disaster, is society-wide avoidance. This is seen in the cases of Australia, New Zealand, maybe China (though that case is complex) and some states in the US that chose a “zero-COVID” strategy. This way sets the stage for disaster by entrenching naive immune systems. [This New Technology is about to reach “Critical Mass”]( Today’s Prophecy When the lockdowns happened, many people were deeply confused by the deployment of this new form of public policy. Trying to figure it all out, many people came to the conclusion that the whole thing was all about getting Trump out of office. I am more convinced of that position now than I used to be. It did seem to be a tactic and it did work, which is why those same people believed that the virus would magically go away after the election or perhaps the inauguration. That did not happen. As all the news frenzy about the Delta Variant demonstrates, the drive to control people in the name of disease mitigation seems to have become an addiction. News media like it when people are attached to their laptops and TV screens at home, rather than commuting or travelling. Government bureaucrats have come to love the power they have over others. In addition, the people who locked down America are terrified of the growing backlash and anxious to delay it as long as possible. Another factor at work is the drive on the part of some fanatics fundamentally to change the structure of society itself, including ending concerts and emptying cities. Sounds crazy but CNN [just published a piece warning]( that indoor events might be forever unsafe. Will this work? I seriously doubt it. Maskless bliss has swept the country. The demographic facts about who is at risk here cannot be forever suppressed. Alternative views on what happened to us and why have been getting out from many non-mainstream sources. Plus, the patron saint of lockdowns, Dr. Fauci, has lost vast credibility compared with this time last year. For those reasons, I do not believe that more controls are on the way, despite the push. To be sure, I was among those shocked that there wasn’t a public revolt the last time so I might be wrong this time too. However, of the following prediction, I am sure: When the Delta Variant fizzles, there will be another, and another, and another. The ruling class is addicted to fear and this particular tactic for generating it. They won’t give it up for many years to come.
