Hi {NAME}, Iâve noticed a couple of things when I use CBD for sleep (its super effective, but you need to time it right and know when to take it. People make the mistake of just making it a nightly habit. That would NOT be my suggestion. 1. If you have enough sleep pressure, donât take it. What this means is when youâre actually tired enough to fall asleep and have had a big day. Sleep pressure is something we often overlook as a big driver for sleep. Itâs the reason why after a big day of walking around at a theme park, or exhausting day of travel you sometimes sleep even harder than you did after a short, but intense workout. Sleep pressure is required for us to sleep well, but if we take CBD on nights we know weâre exhausted, it can backfire and possibly trigger you to wake up a few hours into the night. Itâs only anecdotal and early research here, but in short, youâre essentially taking a risk on losing a good night sleep when you need it most. 2. Donât take it after alcohol or any other kind of mood altering substance. This can backfire as well. Most alcohol and substances disrupt your slow-wave sleep to begin with, sometimes taking CBD could keep you in that pattern of very short sleep cycles. I have known people that have tried to add CBD into their regimen to help wind down after a night out. Itâs almost better to chalk that night up a bit as a loss and take CBD the following night for restorative sleep. 3. Take a CBD that is also blended with CBN: This is something that has been really important for me. CBD seems to be great if youâre a bit stiff and sore, but CBN is what sorta helps calm the mind a bit. CBN works on a slightly different angle than CBD does so it helps your busy mind relax a bit more. This is where I get the most benefit because I tend to have a racing mind most nights. Usually what would happens to me is I wake up around 2:00am because I have to pee⦠thenâ¦. The mind racing starts and itâs hard to fall back asleep. I notice that a CBD and CBN combination helps soothe this issue. I can usually climb right back in bed and maybe have a stray thought or two, but next thing I know, itâs 5:30am and the dogs and kids are waking me up. The CBD/CBN combination that I use is from Cured Nutrition. They have a product that is called ânight oilâ that is a gentle blend of the two compounds. Here is a link for 20% off any of the products: [( They have a number of different CBD products and even some microdose products if thatâs the route you want to go. But for gently easing yourself into sleep and turning off the busy mind a little bit, the Night Oil is the way to go, just use this link and use code THOMAS20: [( 4. CBD seems to work a bit better if you have some food in your system. Again, somewhat anecdotal but the fat solubility does seem to make it so that you have a better effect with some food. Nothing bad is going to happen if you take it on an empty stomach, but youâll likely notice a bit more out of it if you take it about an hour after dinner. 5. Set and setting. This seems like something that wouldnât matter much, but if you start treating it as something to bring you down from a stressful day or event, youâll probably wake up in a few hours very amped up and stressed. Itâs also not a good habit to get into to take something to bring you down from stress. CBD and CBN are best used under your normal routine circumstances to help build healthy habits and restful sleep under your normal conditions. Itâs not like CBD/CBN are anything like alcohol, but the best comparison that I can give is using alcohol to bring yourself down from a stressful day. It just creates an unhealthy loop that could build gnarly habits. Itâs best to just use it as routine as possible in a safe, normal and effective manner. Or if you simply feel like you havenât been sleeping well lately and you want to get some restful sleep. It can be a great pattern interrupt. When you understand a bit more how the endocannabinoid receptors work in the brain, a lot of it makes sense. You want to create healthy, normal patterns. Start small, maybe 2-3 days per week and if you need to increase from there, have at it. Oh, and as far as dosing, you can gauge how you feel the next morning. If you feel mopey and a bit down in the dumps, it means you need to back off the dose a tiny bit. Often times youâre not trying to knock yourself out⦠just taking a little edge off. See you tomorrow!
