Been looking at interesting research on collagen lately. I've been using collagen at various times of the day on and off now for about 8-9 years, but very seldom would I take it before working out. But there is a study that just started making the rounds again recently that showed that having collagen prior to workouts that had a more plyometric (bouncing) effect would actually improve the collagen uptake into the connective tissue. In this particular study, they looked at jump-roping and they saw that when subjects took collagen prior to jump-roping, it increased the uptake into the achilles tendon. Almost like the tendon acted like a sponge for the collagen. I usually use a collagen that doesn't have any flavorings or sweeteners. I just like the basic stuff.
