[The 29 Most Anticipated Movies of 2024]( By Kristen Lopez, Haleigh Foutch, Jeremy Fuster, Umberto Gonzalez, Drew Taylor, and Lawrence Yee We’re finally saying farewell to 2023 and kicking off a whole new year of movies. Though the box office remains all over the place, with presumably guaranteed blockbusters failing to take off and “Barbie” becoming a cultural juggernaut, 2023 gave us a lot of theatrical surprises. But what does 2024 have in store? Right off the bat, sequels. A lot of sequels! Intellectual property remains the lay of the land and there will be plenty of continuations. Theyâre saluting a female editor at a time when three of the yearâs major awards contenders ââKillers of the Flower Moon,â âOppenheimerâ and âMaestroâ â are edited by Thelma Schoonmaker, Jennifer Lame and Michelle Tesoro, respectively, and when other women in the mix include Hilda Rasula for âAmerican Fiction,â Victoria Boydell for âSaltburn,â Sarah Flack for âPriscillaâ and co-editors Claire Simpson (with Sam Restivo) for âNapoleonâ and Oona Flaherty (with Nick Moore) for âAre You There, God? Itâs Me, Margaret.â âThe Editors Guild has about 2,900 picture editors, and 764 women,â said Littleton, a one-time president of that guild. âThatâs about a fourth.
