[Click here]( ID=167008;size=700x180;setID=556351;uid={EMAIL}7220045;click=winter_tv_watchlist_top; [TheWrap - SUMMER TV WATCH LIST] Week of February 25 – March 3 While many parts of the country are beginning to thaw, there’s still plenty more of us who are still in the cold (with Los Angeles suffering from torrential downpours yet again), meaning that lots of folks will be inside and looking for something great to watch. Thankfully, this week is full of terrific programming, from the return of “The Mandalorian” to a new Weeknd concert to a fictionalized version of the story of Fleetwood Mac. Plus: the finale of “1923” and “M3GAN” coming home! On with the television! [Premiere of the week] “The Mandalorian”Wednesday, March 1, Disney+ [the-mandalorian-baby-yoda] Photo: Lucasfilm Disney+’s flagship “Star Wars” series returns! The last time a new episode of the Jon Favreau-created show aired, it was December 2020. This season of the show, which once again follows the titular lone gunslinger (once again played by Pedro Pascal) and his Yoda-ish charge as they attempt to evade the forces of evil and maybe set things right in the galaxy, is shrouded in secrecy. Very little is known about the season, beyond what has been revealed in the early marketing materials, which seem to showcase a return to the Mandalorian’s homeworld, more Carl Weathers and an appearance by Babu Frik, the pint-sized droid mechanic from J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” (He was, we can all agree, the undeniable highlight.) And we know that this won’t be the final hurrah of the Mandalorian; not only has Favreau said that a fourth season has already been written, but there are a host of spinoffs on the way, including “Ahsoka” (with Rosario Dawson reprising her role from “The Mandalorian”) and “Skeleton Crew,” an Amblin-style adventure set during the same time frame as “The Mandalorian” (among others). The Force is strong with this one. [[TRAILER](] ID=167008;size=300x250;setID=492280;uid={EMAIL}7220045;click=watch-list; [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “1923”Sunday, February 26, Paramount+ [Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford in Paramount+ Yellowstone prequel 1923] Photo: Paramount+ The sun never truly sets on Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” universe, although things seem dimmer these days thanks to the protracted contract negotiations that are threatening the mainline series. And while “1923” is coming to a close, fret not – it will return for a second season (at least). Tensions are still simmering between Harrison Ford’s Jacob Dutton and Timothy Dalton’s Donald Whitfield, a business tycoon who was involved in a massacre outside the Dutton ranch. There are plenty of other mysteries (including who, exactly, gave birth to John Dutton’s grandfather) but it’s unclear how many of these conundrums will be solved before the end of “1923’s” inaugural season. [[INTERVIEW](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “M3GAN”Peacock [M3GAN] Photo: Universal Pictures “M3GAN” snuck onto streaming after we had already sent out our last newsletter. So we’re recommending it now! The sleeper horror comedy hit, which made $170 million on a $12 million budget, concerns a toy designer (Allison Williams) who is made the guardian of her young niece (Violet McGraw) after a horrible accident. Instead of actually, you know, parenting the distressed child, Williams gives the girl M3GAN – a prototype, cutting-edge toy that has some unfortunate, murderous bugs. What makes the streaming release of “M3GAN” even more exciting is that you can choose either the theatrical cut of the movie, rated PG-13, or an unrated cut that includes more violence and naughty language. (The 11th hour decision to make the movie more all-audience was covered extensively in the lead-up to the movie’s theatrical release.) A fun, clever, genuinely scary little movie with some great music cues and an irresistible central conceit, “M3GAN” deserves all of its success – and chances are this more mature cut could be even better. All hail “M3GAN,” our cyborg queen. [[WATCH](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium”Saturday, February 25 at 8 p.m., HBO [The Weeknd Live at SoFi Stadium] Photo: HBO Nobody puts on a show quite like The Weeknd. Whether it’s a Super Bowl Halftime Show or an arty visual companion to his latest album, the artist born Abel Tesfaye is one of the most entertaining and charismatic performers of his generation, making a new concert film something of an event. “The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium,” recorded in Los Angeles during his last tour and directed by Micach Bickham (who also directed the brilliant “The Weeknd x Dawn FM Experience” for Prime Video), will put you in the best seat in the house for his latest live spectacular. The concert is also something of a preamble for The Weeknd’s HBO show “The Idol” (expect some news about the series either before or after the concert). Everything’s coming up Abel. [[TRAILER](] ID=167008;size=300x250;setID=492280;uid={EMAIL}7220045;click=watch-list; [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “The Book of Boba Fett”Disney+ [the-book-of-boba-fett-episode-7-image] Photo: Lucasfilm If you tune into the third season premiere of “The Mandalorian” and are wondering why, exactly, The Mandalorian and baby Grogu are back together well, there’s a reason for that. Towards the end of “The Book of Boba Fett,” a spinoff of “The Mandalorian” that streamed on Disney+ in late 2021, the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) entered the show and reconnected with Grogu. This is a huge part of the mythos that was, weirdly, relegated to an only-tangentially-related show. You have a few days, plenty of time to watch (or perhaps re-watch) “The Book of Boba Fett,” a handsomely made and agreeably low-stakes adventure that followed legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) as he attempts to rule the underworld of Tatooine in a more diplomatic fashion. Honestly, it’s pretty inconsequential although the Mandalorian episodes are oddly essential, especially since the episodes of the miniseries also explain why the Mandalorian has a sweet new spaceship. Give it a whirl! [[WATCH](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou”Tuesday, February 28, NetflixThis BBC-produced comedy special combines musical bits with sketch comedy and stars Jamie Demetriou, a genius comedian who you might remember as the weird guy Walt on Apple TV+’s “The Afterparty” (for those with young kids, he also had brief roles in “Cruella” and “Paddington 2”). “A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou” will be wacky and hilarious, perhaps a special you’ve been waiting your whole lifetime for. [[TRAILER](] “True Lies”Wednesday, March 1 at 10 p.m., CBSIf “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “True Lies” occupying movie screens isn’t enough James Cameron for you, how about a TV series based on his 1994 classic (that itself was based on a French farce called “La Totale!”)? The new show comes from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix, with Steve Howey and “She-Hulk” breakout Ginger Gonzaga in roles originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. With a supporting cast that includes Matthew Lillard, Beverly D’Angelo (in the Charlton Heston role) and original star Tom Arnold, this could be a ton of fun. [[TRAILER](] “Wreck”Wednesday, March 1, Hulu“Wreck” originally aired on BBC Three back in the fall of 2022 and is finally making its way stateside. Oscar Kennedy plays a man who boards a cruise ship looking for answers in his sister’s disappearance. What follows is a LGBTQ+-friendly slasher comedy that got mixed reviews upon its release but was popular enough to score a season 2 pickup. Where will you fall on the “Wreck” approval matrix? [[TRAILER](] “Sex/Life” Thursday, March 2, NetflixThe original season of Netflix’s cheeky drama, which concerned a suburban mother who starts fantasizing about her past, putting her current relationship in jeopardy, streamed back in the summer of 2021. The Stacy Rukeyser-created series (based on “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by BB Eaton) is finally back. Hopefully the passion is still there. [[TRAILER](] “Daisy Jones & the Six”Friday, March 3, Prime VideoYou might as well queue it up, because everybody will be talking about “Daisy Jones & the Six.” Based on the 2019 bestseller by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the new series from “(500) Days of Summer” and “The Spectacular Now” writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, is something of a fictionalized version of the story of Fleedwood Mac. If that isn’t enough to have you intrigued, then the starry, adorable cast surely will (Riley Keough, Camila Morrone, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse and Timothy Olyphant). Plus indie darling filmmaker James Ponsoldt (“The End of the Tour”) directed the first half of the season. And “Daisy Jones & the Six” isn’t just a TV show, it’s a synergistic juggernaut, with a 24-track soundtrack album (featuring artists like Blake Mills, Phoebe Bridgers and Marcus Mumford). Rock on!
