Fall TV Watch List: It's Check-in Time Again at 'The White Lotus' No images? [Click here](
[- - -] [TheWrap - SUMMER TV WATCH LIST] Week of October 29 â November 4 Halloween is nearly over but the holiday season hasnât quite started yet, which means itâs a great time to kick back and watch some television. This week, âThe White Lotusâ and âEnola Holmesâ return, along with a new Jennifer Lawrence drama, a show set in a Blockbuster Video that also somehow takes place in the present, a âWeird Alâ biopic and another saucy Harry Styles movie. Clearly, this is the greatest timeline. On with the television! [Premiere of the week]
âThe White LotusâSunday, October 30 at 9 p.m., HBO [the-white-lotus-season-2-jennifer-coolidge] Photo: HBO When âThe White Lotusâ aired last summer, it was the rare quarantine production that had a large-scale cultural impact. Writer/director Mike Whiteâs savage takedown of white privilege, set at a tony all-inclusive resort, simmered with an all-star cast providing razor-sharp performances. With the thrill of surprise gone, will the second season be just as delightful? Time will tell! The follow-up takes place at a White Lotus hotel in Italy. Season 1 standout Jennifer Coolidge is the only returning actress; this time, the supporting cast includes F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hollander, Michael Imperioli and Aubrey Plaza. Not too shabby! And on the billboards Coolidge is on a Vespa so thatâs something else to look forward to. Canât wait to check in for our stay at The White Lotus. [[TRAILER](]

âUnsolved MysteriesâTuesday, November 1, Netflix [Unsolved Mysteries] Photo: Netflix Even with its change in format (no host, a single mystery each episode, less evocative re-creations), the new âUnsolved Mysteriesâ has recaptured the singularly creepy magic of the original series. This new seasonâs final three episodes are among the best of this batch â âBody in the Bayâ details the strange discovery of a manâs dead body and âAbducted by a Parentâ follows a woman whose estranged husband kidnapped their children. But the real stunner is the episode sandwiched in between, âThe Ghost in Apartment 14.â Usually when âUnsolved Mysteriesâ veers into the paranormal it can either be utterly terrifying or downright silly but this episode is utterly insane. It starts off as a run-of-the-mill haunting story but then takes a twist that you will never see coming. And it keeps going. Truly one of the most WTF-worthy hours of television youâll see all year. âEnola Holmes 2âFriday, November 4, Netflix Photo: Netflix The game is afoot! Again! Netflix staple Millie Bobby Brown returns as Sherlock Holmesâ precocious teenage sister. And wouldnât you know it, she also has a knack for solving complex mysteries. Director Harry Bradbeer and writer Jack Thorne return, having served the same roles in 2020âs stylish original, alongside cast members like Henry Cavill (as Sherlock Holmes) and Helena Bonham Carter (as Eudoria Holmes). If the sequel (which, like the predecessor, is based on the books by Nancy Springer) is half as much fun as the first film, well, itâs going to be a whole lot of fun. [[TRAILER](]

âGod Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a DynastyâTuesday, November 1, Hulu [God Forbid] Photo: Hulu Well this should be scandalous fun. âGod Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynastyâ tells the story of a Miami pool boy who becomes embroiled in a sexual relationship with Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife. When news of the affair breaks, it threatens to destroy Falwell, a member of a family of Christian evangelicals and a major Donald Trump supporter, and his perfectly curated existence. But with executive producer Adam McKay on board, you can be sure that this wonât be totally doom-and-gloom. There will be a satirical twinkle, for sure. This will undoubtedly be one of the seasonâs must-see documentaries. [[TRAILER](]

âBarbarianâHBO Max [Barbarian] Photo: 20th Century Studios âBarbarian,â a horror sleeper from this summer that made over $40 million on a budget of $4.5 million, quietly debuted on HBO Max last week. And if youâre still feeling in the spooky mood, you should definitely check it out. Written and directed by Zach Cregger and starring Georgina Campbell, Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd and Justin Long, the less you know about âBarbarianâ the better. But we can safely say Campbell plays a young woman who checks into an Air BnB on a dark and stormy night, only to find that another lodger (SkarsgÃ¥rd) has already arrived. From there, things take a turn. And probably not in the ways you expect. Fun, funny and deeply disturbing, âBarbarianâ feels like a new cult classic and Cregger is now a genre filmmaker to watch. Itâs a scream. [[WATCH](]
[- - -] [Premiere of the week] âBlockbusterâThursday, November 3, NetflixâBlockbusterâ hinges on an irresistible premise: a workplace comedy set at the last Blockbuster in America. And what makes it even better is the cast, led by Randall Park and âBrooklyn Nine-Nineâ favorite Melissa Fumero (alongside Tyler Alvarez, Madeleine Arthur, Olga Merediz and J.B. Smoove). Misplaced nostalgia, awkward interactions with colleagues and some of the most charming comedians working today? Sounds worth showing up to on a Friday night and browsing around. [[TRAILER](] âMarvel Studios Assembled: The Making of She-Hulk: Attorney at Lawâ / âDirector by NightâThursday, November 3 / Friday, November 4, Disney+Two of the latest Marvel Studios productions (which also happened to be two of the very best), become the subject of a pair of behind-the-scenes documentaries. âMarvel Studios Assembled,â an ongoing series of making-of specials (watch the âDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessâ installment for perfectly cheesy this-could-have-been-on-CBS-in-the-early-1990s charm) shines a light on Marvelâs lawyer comedy series âShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law,â while âDirector by Nightâ takes a look at Michael Giacchino, who went from film composer to one of Marvel’s most respected filmmakers with recent Halloween special âWerewolf by Night.â [[TRAILER](] âCausewayâFriday, November 4, Apple TV+Jennifer Lawrence is back! The Oscar-winning actress returns after last yearâs âDonât Look Nowâ with âCauseway,â a postage-stamp-size drama about a female soldier who suffers a traumatic brain injury in Afghanistan who returns to her hometown. There she befriends a local mechanic (Brian Tyree Henry) as she works through her issues. Sounds heavy! But it could also be another Oscar-nominated performance for Lawrence. And never underestimate the combined might of Apple and A24. [[TRAILER](] âMy PolicemanâFriday, November 4, Prime VideoBased on Bethan Robertsâ 2012 novel, âMy Policemanâ stars the one and only Harry Styles as a closeted policeman in 1950s England. Heâs married to a woman (âThe Crownâsâ Emma Corrin) but in a secret relationship with a man (David Dawson). Intrigue! The movie, a potential awards contender, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and received warm reviews. Is Styles-the-actor the real deal? Watch âMy Policemanâ and find out. [[REVIEW](] âWeird: The Al Yankovic StoryâFriday, November 4, Roku ChannelReady for a self-aware biopic/parody centered around the life of accordion-obsessed satirist âWeird Alâ Yankovic starring Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe? Sure you are! Based, in part, on a “Funny or Die” sketch from 2010 starring Aaron Paul (yes, seriously), this film takes a highly fictionalized look at the life and career of Alfred Matthew “Weird Al” Yankovic. Evan Rachel Wood co-stars as Madonna with several Muppet movies-worth of celebrity cameos. It should be some very silly fun, just like one of âWeird Alâsâ songs! [[REVIEW](] [- - -] That does it for this weekâs edition of The Wrapâs Summer TV Watch List.
