Parties & Premieres Report: Emmy Celebrations Bring the Heat; Toronto Pulls in Big Stars No images? [Click here](
ID=167008;size=700x180;setID=579653;uid={EMAIL}6802525;click=parties_premiere_top [TheWrap - SUMMER TV WATCH LIST] September brought heat to SoCal, both literally and with the Emmy Awards, which delivered Hollywood’s hottest stars. Plus the Toronto Film Festival sizzled and Marilyn Monroe’s ghost returned to TCL Chinese Theatre By Jenny Peters Zendaya celebrated her second Emmy win for “Euphoria” at the HBO/HBO Max after-party, while “Ozark” repeat winner Julia Garner whooped it up with Aaron Paul at the Netflix event. (Photos by Frazier Harrison/Getty Images) Glamour ruled on red carpets as the A-list came out in droves in Hollywood, and Toronto, too, as awards season began and film festivals brought first looks at some clear Oscar contenders (at least according to critics and the applauding audiences). There was some drama, some seriously stupid moves (Jimmy Kimmel, we are looking right at you) and lots of fun along the way.

Swag Suites and Lunch/Brunch Celebrations Filled
the Days Leading to the Big Show Issa Rae, Rachel Brosnahan, Hannah Einbinder and Nasim Pedrad attend the Glamour x Tory Burch Luncheon Celebrating the Emmys at Holloway House on Sept. 10. (Photo by Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images for Glamour x Tory Burch) There were too many pre-Emmy parties and events and too little time as the days leading up to Monday’s awards show rolled out the red carpets all over Los Angeles. And the 100° heat across the Southland didn’t help with motivation, especially since many of the fun daytime fetes were outside, in beautiful gardens and on restaurant patios, which are normally perfect party spots at Emmy Awards time in September. Mother Nature had other ideas, as every day from Thursday to Monday’s actual show were brutally hot, with nary a breeze and high humidity, so doing outdoor happenings was definitely a challenge. Inside at Holloway House in WeHo, a pride of ladies with 2022 Emmy nominations descended on the Glamour (Magazineâs) x Tory Burch luncheon. Celebrating the accomplished women who gathered to enjoy their hard-earned success, the group included Connie Britton, Janelle James, Quinta Brunson, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Sydney Sweeney, who joined Issa Rae, Rachel Brosnahan, Hannah Einbinder and Nasim Pedrad (pictured above) in a lovely (and cool) Saturday afternoon repast. (Photos courtesy of Doris Bergman) Doris Bergman moved her annual luxe lounge to Hollywood and her fans followed, including Lisa Ann Walter, whoâs part of the âAbbott Elementaryâ cast enjoying the spotlight of a hugely successful new show. She and a crowd including Constance Marie, Eric Roberts and 2022 “Hacks” nominee Christopher McDonald checked out the steamy patio scene at LâAntica Pizzaria da Michele. Thatâs where fashion designer Sue Wong showed outrageous embroidered evening wear while cannabis (The Marijuana Company) and liquor companies (Dulce Vida Organic Tequila, Spa Girl Vodka and Soon Hari Soju) joined the Beauty Tea Company and Naturade as sponsors to help get everybodyâs head twisted on right, which distracted a little from the sweatbox that was the back patio setting. (Photo by Bella Sky Photography) 2022 Emmy nominees Rhea Seehorn and Christopher McDonald braved the heat and stopped by the eBay & GBK Brand Bar luxury celebrity gifting lounge at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, joining Angela Bassett, Danny Strong, Kate Burton, Esai Morales and many others over two afternoons of gifting. There was California Caviar Companyâs sturgeon roe paired with Cardinal du Four Armagnac to sample (a wonderful combination), as well as Ikeâs crowd pleasing âLove and Sandwichesâ offerings (and a $1K gift certificate to buy lots more at any of his eponymous 80+ locations) and El Cristianoâs smooth-sipping tequila. Nominees also went home with five-night trips to Sailrock Resort on Turks and Caicos, vacations to Uganda with Lush African Safaris and big ticket eBay gift cards, too. “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Alex Borstein chooses handmade earrings from Bijoux Sail Away Jewellery at the annual DPA Pre-Awards Gift Suite on Sept. 11. (Photo courtesy of DPA by Claire Painchaud) Up at Nathalie Duboisâ popular annual DPA Pre-Awards Gift Suite a stellar group of Emmy nominees found more swag at the Luxe Sunset Hotel including handmade Bijoux Sail Away Jewellery and handcrafted Jacob Madani footwear. Visitors to her two-day weekend extravaganza sipped Rendez Vous Champagne, Pearson Brothers Honey Wine and/or Bruno Mars’ SelvaRay Rum while enjoying the Westside’s slightly cooler breezes. 2002 nominees Alex Borstein, Steve Zhan and Chris McDonald made the scene, along with Giancarlo Esposito of âBetter Call Saulâ fame, âOzarkâ breakout star Jessica Frances Dukes and many others. Michael Mando, Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian from âBetter Call Saulâ brave the scorching temperatures to attend the AMC Networks’ Emmy Brunch at Ysabel restaurant on Sept. 11. (Photo by Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images) AMC Networks had their garden party on Sunday at Ysabel restaurant, another spot that radiated the outrageously steamy temps. The “Better Call Saul” crowd toughed it out, with nominee Rhea Seehorn found fanning herself and joking that for her, “it isnât just the heat, itâs the mosquitoes,” and adding that there should be âa mosquito index instead of a heat index, I am covered in bites!â She also admitted that she wasnât very confident about her chances to take home her first Emmy. âI donât think Iâm going to win,â she announced, âbut I am having so much fun this week!â

The Hot Nights Heading Up to Emmy Monday
Big Bashes Bring Out Top Talent âPam and Tommyâ hunk Sebastian Stan and âTed Lassoâ beauty Sarah Niles attend the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards Performers Nominee Reception at the Television Academy on Sept. 9. (Photos by Frazer Harrison/Getty Images) When the Television Academy calls, everyone listens. So the stampede was on the night of the Performers Nominee Reception, for the “official” pre-Emmy Awards get together expressly for all the thespians was the golden ticket on Friday night. Sarah Niles led the “Ted Lasso” crowd along with Sam Richardson, while Sebastian Stan, Matthew Macfadyen, J. Smith-Cameron, Michael Stuhlberg, Janelle James, Connie Britton and a host of others all got together at the Saban Center in NoHo to enjoy the moment of being one of the chosen few. Some stars peeled off to head toward the beach, to the Rose Cafe in Venice to join in the CAA celebration that same evening or to the UTA bash also happening on the rooftop of the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills. Melanie Lynskey attends the 2022 Paramount Emmy Party at Catch LA on Sept. 10 in West Hollywood. (Photo by David Livingston/Getty Images) Friday nightâs Paramount Emmy Party brought together all things under the studioâs umbrella, ranging from CBS and BET to MTV, Nickelodeon, Showtime and Paramount+, which made for a packed scene at the brand-new and incredibly elegant Catch Steak LA (which transformed the old Fig & Olive space). RuPaul, who took home his 12th Emmy the weekend before, held court in one of the spacious banquettes by the bar, while fellow 2022 nominees Christina Ricci, Himesh Patel, Juno Temple, Phil Keoghan, Trevor Noah and Melanie Lynskey explored both levels of the swank new place as music blared at ear-splitting levels. Melanie admitted to TheWrap that while she was over the moon at being nominated, she had her doubts about bringing home a trophy for her first nomination as lead actress in a drama series. âOh no, I donât think I will win,â she said with smile, âbecause there are so many great people in my category.â But did she have a speech written, just in case? âNot yet! But I will by Monday night,â Lynskey chuckled. Lee Jung-jae, Sydney Sweeney, Bob Odenkirk, Rachel Brosnahan, Andrew Garfield, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, Christina Ricci, Himesh Patel and Kaitlyn Dever make for a star-studded group shot at the annual MPTF Evening Before fundraiser on Sept. 11. (Photo courtesy Shutterstock and MPTF) Everyone who was anyone showed up at the 16th Annual Motion Picture and Television Fund Evening Before fundraiser, held in Century City on Sunday, helping to raise a record $3 million to support the fundâs ongoing work to make sure that people in the industry do not want in times of need. The whole crowd, including the truly star-studded gang captured above (Lee Jung-jae, Sydney Sweeney, Bob Odenkirk, Rachel Brosnahan, Andrew Garfield, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, Christina Ricci, Himesh Patel and Kaitlyn Dever) took in the 50 Cent concert that topped off this casual (and very warm) evening under the stars, where not one person needed a jacket. 74th Emmy Awards and Post-Parties
Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in DTLA [Sheryl Lee Ralph] “Abbott Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph sings her acceptance speech during the ceremony. (Getty Images) There was a lot to unpack by the time the 74th Emmy Awards presented “Succession” with the last award, for Outstanding Drama Series, and [TheWrap](was there every step of the way. From our [full list of the winners]( to the [fashion do’s and don’ts](, along with incisive analysis of [surprises and snubs]( and [the continuing lack of diversity in the winners](, our comprehensive coverage continued as the after parties went into high gear. Zendaya did a quick outfit change before arriving at the 2022 HBO Emmy’s Party at San Vicente Bungalows on Sept. 12 in West Hollywood. (Photo by David Livingston/Getty Images) The HBO/HBO Max family headed to the San Vicente Bungalows to revel in their 38 Emmy wins, led by Zendaya, who changed from one big black dress to slim red number and pulled back her hair, ready to join the party. She found lots of familiar faces (and some fellow winners) inside, including Sara Snook, Oscar Isaac, Alexandra Daddario, Brian Cox, Jean Smart, Christopher McDonald, Jeremy Strong, Murray Bartlett and her “Euphoria” co-star Maude Apatow, whose dad Judd joined her in the party swirl. Julia Garner and Jason Bateman celebrate “Ozark” at the Netflix Post-Emmys 2022 celebration at Milk Studios on Sept. 12. (Photo courtesy of Netflix and Getty Images) Julia Garner didn’t change her belly-button-baring dress, but she added the Emmy Award trophy as the ultimate accessory as she made her way to the Netflix bash at Milk Studios. It’s her third (and last, as the show is over) for her top-notch work in âOzark,â so its no wonder she found her TV boss Jason Bateman in the huge crowd. Ted Sarandos and his huge stable of talent had plenty to get excited about with 26 Emmy wins this year, so itâs no surprise that a bit of a rave broke out on the dance floor led by the Korean cast of âSquid Game.â That dark drama won six Emmys, while âStranger Thingsâ brought home four. Also spotted in the huge party crush were Laura Linney, Geena Davis, Shonda Rhimes and Mindy Kaling. Amanda Seyfried shows off her Emmy at The Walt Disney Company 2022 Post Emmy Celebration Sept. 12. (PictureGroup for The Walt Disney Company) The Disney Company family mustered 26 Emmys, including wins for “Abbott Elementary” creator-star Quinta Brunson, Michael Keaton in âDopesickâ and Amanda Seyfried as âThe Dropout.â All three made the scene Monday night at the huge after party held at Otium restaurant, where the scrum in the back garden got so thick that people started jokingly shouting âStay alive! I will find you!â And no wonder, as the star quotient was off the charts, as Martin Short, Sebastian Stan, Lily James, Andrew Garfield, Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult wiggled through the jam. Hoult, in a classic take on his âThe Greatâ character, shouted out to a well-wisher (who yelled to him that he should have won in his category of Lead Actor in a Comedy Series), âI know! I mean, WHAT THE F—!â and caused a ripple of laughs through the wall-to-wall people. The âAbbott Elementaryâ gang, including winners Sheryl Lee Ralph and Brunson and co-stars Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis turned up fashionably late, and Sheryl explained that the gods had a hand in her amazing acceptance speech. “I can tell you one thing. I’m so glad that God and Goddess spoke through me, because I really couldn’t tell you what I said. But it was as if all of a sudden something just took me and I was flying!” [she exulted to TheWrap on the red carpet.]( Jimmy Kimmel, who seemed very subdued earlier in the evening at the party, studiously avoided Brunson at the packed party. After his ridiculously disrespectful “passed out” shtick in the midst of Brunson’s first-ever win, we’d have thought he wouldn’t even show his face at an after party. âRed-carpet reporting by Elijah Gil Sam Richardson, Jason Sudeikis and Andrew Garfield at the Apple TV+ Post-Emmy Party 2022 at Mother Wolf on Sept. 12 (Photo by Eric Charbonneau/Stewart Cook for Apple TV+) As the Apple TV+ celebration went past the witching hour at Mother Wolf, the “Ted Lasso” ensemble were all together to revel in their second-in-a-row win for top comedy series. Brett Goldstein and Jason Sudeikis hung onto their trophies, while Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Toheeb Jimoh and Sam Richardson just partied on, feeling the âTed Lassoâ love. Reese Witherspoon, Adam Scott, Ben Stiller, John Turturro, Patricia Arquette and many others joined the happy celebration and when it wound down, Sam Richardson, Jason Sudeikis and Andrew Garfield took a photo that perfectly epitomized the end of a very long week of hard partying. [Premiere of the week]
“Blonde”
TCL Chinese Theatre, Hollywood Evan Williams and Xavier Samuel (left) and Ana de Armas and Adrien Brody (right) attend Netflix’s “Blonde” Los Angeles premiere on Sept. 13. (Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images) Ana de Armas brought a herd of handsome men to the premiere of “Blonde,” her new film that explores a fictionalized version of Marilyn Monroe. Based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates (who insists the story is a fictional conceit), the film doesn’t give actual names to the men who populate the life of Norma Jeane (with an extra E). Her red-carpet partner Adrien Brody is called “The Playwright” (not Arthur Miller) while Bobby Cannavale (who missed this night-after-the-Emmys scene at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood) plays “The Ex-Athlete” (not Joe DiMaggio). De Armas must have felt the ghost of Monroe as she walked the red carpet, for the late legend’s hand and footprints are front and center at the iconic theater. Her co-stars, including Evan Williams, Xavier Samuel, Scoot McNairy and Sara Paxton, as well as her director Andrew Dominik, joined Netflix head honcho Ted Sarandos on the red carpet.

Toronto Film Festival
Toronto, Canada [toronto] (Clockwise from top left) Nicolas Cage; Janelle Monae; Steven Spielberg and Gabriel LaBelle; Jennifer Lawrence; Emma Corrin (Photography by George Pimental for TheWrap) The Toronto film Festival is off to a rollicking start, as every star who wasn’t at the Emmys seemingly went off to TIFF for the long weekend, as the fest kicked off on Sept. 8 and runs to Sept. 18. The Wrap’s executive awards editor Steve Pond was on the ground, [sending reports]( of all the buzzy films that have been premiering at the 47th edition of the fest. Think “The Fabelmans,” “The Woman King,” “Bros,” “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” with every one getting serious buzz heading into awards season. In TheWrap’s [Toronto Video Studio](, Editor in Chief Sharon Waxman held lively discussions with everyone from [Hillary and Chelsea Clinton]( to [Viola Davis and the cast of “The Woman King”]( and we’re seeing incredible photos in [TheWrap & Shutterstock’s 2022 Toronto Portrait Studio](. [Hugh Jackman, Toronto Film Festival] Hugh Jackman greets the paparazzi at the TIFF premiere for his film “The Son” (Photo by George Pimental for TheWrap) Photographer George Pimental [captured the liveliness of the festival]( on the street level — including red-carpet arrivals of stars from Hugh Jackman to Jennifer Lawrence to Taylor Swift to Oprah Winfrey. You can check out a gallery of his [candid, personal shots]( here. Meanwhile, as TIFF premieres and parties popped up all across town, we made sure to check out some of the hot happenings in a much-more-temperate town than Los Angeles of late. Elisabeth Moss and O-T Fagbenle vamp it up at “The Handmaid’s Tale” series premiere party at TIFF 2002. (Photo courtesy of Hulu by Frank Micelotta) Heading into the Season 5 premiere party for âThe Handmaids’ Tale” at Toronto’s chic 1 Hotel, guests had to run the gauntlet of fans gathered with pens and posters watching for Elisabeth Moss, who arrived clad in a long gold dress (no red-hooded capes in sight) and a willingness to make her fans happy. She stopped to sign autographs with a smile then went on to the rosy red carpet, as Sam Jaeger joined co-star Bradley Whitford in an elevator ride to Harrietâs Rooftop where the party was in full swing. Moss and her other “Tale” co-stars, including Q-T Fagbenle, Yvonne Strahovski and Ever Carradine vamped in front of the living rose wall, but it was Amanda Brugel who got the party going on the carpet, using it as a stage to show off her dance moves as DJ Michelle Pesce played a killer set list. The dancing kept on going throughout the evening, as Moss, Brugel and Fagbenle tore it up to ââI Wanna Dance With Somebody” and Lizzoâs âGood as Hell.â Meanwhile, for what seemed like hours, Max Minghella talked to Stephen Kunken, who didn’t seem to get a word in edgewise, making us think that perhaps it isn’t only women who get that shades of ‘The Handmaid’s Tale” treatment in real life. â Emily Vogel reporting from Toronto Kit Harington arrives at the “Baby Ruby” premiere party held at the Jaguar Supper Suite at MARBL restaurant during the Toronto Film Festival 2022. (Photagonist.ca) The Jaguar Supper Suite at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival was the hot ticket in town for the first weekend of TIFF, as that VIP pop-up brought in stars like Kit Harington, Jim Gaffigan and Natalie Portman. As the Moët & Chandon, Belvedere and Hennessy flowed at MARBL restaurant, there was schmoozing, drinking and dancing that went well into the early morning hours.
Â
On Friday evening, TheWrap headed over to join in celebrating the premiere of Haringtonâs new film âBaby Ruby,â a psychological thriller about a vlogger/influencer who becomes a new mom. Earlier, at TheWrap & Shutterstockâs TIFF Photo Studio, the former âGame of Thronesâ star kept mum about his new spinoff “Thrones” series: âI donât know anything about that!â Come on, Jon Snow, despite Toronto being balmy in September, winter is coming!
Â
Harington and “Baby Ruby” co-star, French actress Noémie Merlant, arrived fashionably late to the party and stayed just long enough to see and be seen. Later on, Bess Wohl, writer-director of âBaby Ruby,â got a big birthday surprise, complete with a parade of sparklers, drinks and desserts. Soon after the party ended at 9:30 p.m. the space was up and running again for the âSusie Searchesâ premiere party at 10 p.m. Jim Gaffigan and Alex Moffat trip the light fantastic at the “Susie Searches” premiere party held at the Jaguar Supper Suite at MARBL restaurant during the Toronto Film Festival 2022. (Photagonist.ca) The stars of âSusie Searches,â including Jim Gaffigan, Ken Marino, Alex Moffat, Kiersey Clemons, Alex Wolff, David Walton and Adam Mirels also danced into their late-night premiere party, joining guests who were well into the party mode, throwing back shots and grinding on the dance floor. We even saw a few DFMOs (dance floor make-outs) happen as the night turned into morning!
Â
The party gravitated toward Alex Wolff, the âPigâ actor whose his charisma and energy seemed to pulled people into his orbit. Later in the evening, âBaby Rubyâ producer Lauren Beveridge, who stuck around for the second party, chatted with Walton about the hopes of working on a future project together. If that happens, remember you heard it here first! Natalie Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied make the scene at the Jaguar Supper Suite to celebrate the premiere of “Carmen” at TIFF 2022. (Photagonist.ca) On Sunday afternoon, we headed back to the Jaguar Supper Club for the Sony Pictures Classics reception celebrating a quadruple premiere of their TIFF films âCarmen,â âLiving,â âThe Return of Tanya Tuckerâ and âOne Fine Morning.” âCarmenâ director Benjamin Millepied brought his wife Natalie Portman to the fete, along with the film’s stars, Paul Mescal and Rossy de Palma. That international set eventually made their way to the small outside patio by the red carpet, where âLivingâ director Oliver Hermanus and star Aimee Lou Wood joined their pack, making up their own #CoolKids corner before eventually returning to the main party filled with all of us less-cool North American types. â Emily Vogel reporting from Toronto
