[- - -] [TheWrap - SUMMER TV WATCH LIST] Week of September 26 – October 2 The ’90s are back, baby! Between the “Sopranos” prequel movie, a new Britney Spears documentary (yep, another one) and a Princess Diana musical, this week is a blast from the past on the TV front. Thank goodness we have the Tony Awards to anchor us in the present day â oh wait, even those are stuck in 2019. Oh well, on with the television! [Premiere of the week]
“Maid”
Friday, October 1, Netflix [maid netflix]

Margaret Qualley plays a single mother trying to keep herself and her daughter off the streets after escaping an abusive relationship, only to find herself homeless and penniless. It’s dark, sure, but who isn’t a sucker for an underdog story? All 10 episodes hit Netflix on Oct. 1. [[TRAILER](]

“Mr. Corman”
Friday, October 1, Apple TV+ [mr. corman]

The Joseph Gordon-Levitt-led dark comedy flew a bit under the radar during its debut season, maybe because folks were more preoccupied with another Apple leading man whose name rhymes with “Shmed Shmasso.” Never mind; we’re just hoping the finale gives us another weird, whimsical dance number (preferably with Debra Winger again). “The Many Saints of Newark”
Friday, October 1, HBO Max [The Many Saints of Newark The Sopranos]

Fourteen years after the “The Sopranos” ended in much-debated fashion, everyone’s favorite mafia family returns for a nostalgia-fueled prequel film. “Many Saints” takes us back to the 1960s, with the late James Gandolfini’s son Michael assuming the mantle as a young Tony Soprano. Because you gotta keep it in the family. [[REVIEW](]

“Britney vs Spears”
Tuesday, September 28, Netflix [britney vs spears]

We’re getting hit, baby, one more time with another Britney Spears documentary. Seven months after Hulu’s “Framing Britney Spears” â and just a few days after the followup, “Controlling Britney Spears” â Netflix is dropping its own doc chronicling the pop star’s fight to end her 13-year conservatorship. This one promises exclusive interviews and never-before-seen court documents, but the gist is the same: “Free Britney!” [[TRAILER](]

“ER”

It may not be the longest-running medical drama (more on that below), but “ER” is, in this writer’s opinion, the crème de la crème. Just think of all those epic TV moments â from the effin’ unbelievable (Doug Ross rescuing a boy from a storm drain!) to the heartwarming (everything having to do with Carter and Benton’s bromantic friendship arc) to the utterly devastating (Dr. Mark Greene’s death⦠can’t even typing that without tearing up and humming “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”). All 15 seasons and 331 episodes are streaming on Hulu. [[WATCH](]

74th Annual Tony Awards
Sunday, September 26, Paramount+ and CBSThis ain’t your mama’s Tonys â the pandemic-delayed ceremony has opted for a four-hour, multiplatform event this year. Try to keep this straight: Audra McDonald will host the first two hours of the broadcast, airing on Paramount+, and then Leslie Odom Jr. will take the reins for a “Broadway’s Back!” celebration on CBS, featuring lots of performances and the top three awards: Best Play, Best Musical and Best Revival of a Play. [[PREDICTIONS](] “Diana: The Musical”
Friday, October 1, NetflixSpeaking of musicals, Princess Di is coming to Netflix â and we’re not talking about Elizabeth Debicki on “The Crown.” The production was filmed in 2020 with the cast of the Broadway show that was meant to open that April until the pandemic closed theaters (it’s now set to open this fall after this filmed version starts streaming). The musical follows 19-year-old Diana Spencer, who⦠ah, you already know the story. And if you don’t, there are approximately a zillion pop culture portrayals of the people’s princess to fill in the gaps. But only this one has fun songs to accompany the royal drama. [[TRAILER](] “The Problem With Jon Stewart”
Thursday, September 30, Apple TV+He’s baaaack! The former “Daily Show” host returns to TV with a new weekly current affairs series in which each hour-long episode will be devoted to a single big issue. And if that’s not enough J. Stew for you, a companion podcast will feature an even deeper dive about each week’s topic. [[TRAILER](] “Grey’s Anatomy”
Thursday, September 30, ABCIf “Grey’s” were a person, it would now be old enough to drive â that’s how long ABC’s medical drama has been on our airwaves. The Season 18 (!) premiere doubles as a “Station 19” crossover event, and the first trailer already teased that “someone from Meredith’s past comes back.” (As if it could get any juicier than last season’s return of one Dr. McDreamy). [[PREVIEW](] “Saturday Night Live”
Saturday, October 2, NBCImpossibly, Owen Wilson has never hosted “SNL” before (say it with us: “Wow!”). That wrong will be righted when the “Loki” star kicks off Season 47 as host, joined by returning musical guest and country-pop queen Kacey Musgraves. [[PREVIEW](] [- - -] That does it for this weekâs edition of The Wrapâs Fall TV Watch List.
