Plus Lily Gladstone's "Fancy Dance" finally premieres on Apple TV+ Week of June 10 ? 16 The Fourth

Plus Lily Gladstone's "Fancy Dance" finally premieres on Apple TV+ Week of June 10 – 16 The Fourth of July is nearly here and there are some big time titles to fill your lengthening days, including the return of “The Bear” (!), a new Nicole Kidman Netflix rom-com (“A Family Affair”), a new Lily Gladstone drama (“Fancy Dance”), a Celine Dion documentary (“I Am: Celine Dion”) and an animated series that everybody in the family is going to fall in love with (“WondLa”). Truly, something for everyone this week. On with the television! The Bear Thursday, June 27, Hulu Source: Hulu One of television’s very best series returns a little over a year since the previous season, which is pretty impressive considering that in between seasons there have been two major Hollywood strikes and several members of the cast have become genuine movie stars. If you’ve never seen “The Bear,” it concerns Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), an award-winning New York City chef who returns to Chicago to take over his brother’s failing restaurant. (His brother, played by Jon Bernthal, commits suicide shortly before the events of the series.) Through the first two seasons the show has tackled the intensity of running a restaurant and all the things that can go wrong behind the scenes. Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays the restaurant's manager, who is a mess but got himself together in this past season, partially through the healing power of Taylor Swift; and Ayo Edebiri is the restaurant's sous-chef and Carmy’s moral and artistic compass. It’s a beautiful show, full of pathos and heart, and we can’t believe they’re dropping every episode at once. We’ll be eating well. And don’t worry – the wait for season 4 won’t be too long; it was revealed that they were shooting seasons 3 and 4 together. How great is that? [[TRAILER](] Who Killed WCW? Tuesday, June 25 at 10 p.m., VICE Source: VICE From the creators of “Dark Side of the Ring,” “Who Killed WCW?” is a “wild, insightful, and star-studded investigation into the death of Ted Turner's WCW,” according to the official press release. WCW, or World Championship Wrestling, was established in 1988 when Turner bought the assets of National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) territory Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP). It seemed, for a while at least, like WCW was going to be a legitimate challenger to the World Wrestling Federation (now known as the WWE) – at one point the popularity of the WCW even eclipsed the WWE. But a number of corporate and personal blunders led to the WCW closing up shop in 2017. In the finale of this miniseries, will we finally know who killed WCW? Or will it still be a question that lingers in the hearts and minds of wrestling fans everywhere? Only one way to find out. [[TRAILER](] A Family Affair Friday, June 28, Netflix Source: Netflix It’d be easy to write off “A Family Affair” as frothy, easily dismissible and cookie cutter. But then you look at the cast and who is behind the movie and you realize it could be a sleeper hit for the summer. The movie stars Joey King as Zara, an assistant to a self-absorbed movie star named Chris (Zac Efron). Things go from bad to worse when Zara realizes that her widowed mother, Brooke (Nicole Kidman), is having an affair with Chris. That hooks you, doesn’t it? Well, prepared to be intrigued further, since Kathy Bates and Shirley MacLaine, living legends both, are part of the supporting cast. And the movie was directed by Richard LaGravenese, who has written sensitive, beautiful movies like “The Fisher King,” “A Little Princess,” “The Bridges of Madison County” and “The Mirror Has Two Faces,” and has directed movies like “Freedom Writers” and “P.S. I Love You.” (He also wrote and directed “Beautiful Creatures,” one of the best would-be franchises in recent memory.) So, see, it could have been something not worth paying attention to, but “A Family Affair” has some real power behind it. Don’t miss out. [[TRAILER](] I Am: Celine Dion Tuesday, June 25, Prime Video Source: Prime Video According to Prime Video, this new Celine Dion documentary, directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor “gives us a raw and honest behind-the-scenes look at the iconic superstar’s struggle with a life-altering illness. This inspirational documentary highlights the music that has guided her life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.” And it’s true, Dion has really gone through it the past few years, with her longtime husband René Angélil dying in 2016, with one of her brothers dying two days later and in 2022 the French-Canadian singer, perhaps most famous for her theme to “Titanic,” was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, which affects her muscles and impacted her ability to sing. Just know that Prime Video also warns that the doc “contains powerful scenes of medical trauma.” This is going to be intense. [[TRAILER](] Terriers Hulu Source: FX The return of “The Bear” got us thinking about other FX shows that are named after animals and, specifically, “Terriers,” the greatest show that nobody has seen. The series, which lasted for a single, 13-episode season, follows two low rent (and unlicensed) private eyes played by Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James, who investigate various mysteries in a sunny seaside California town. (Wouldn’t you know it, they ultimately uncover something vast and more sinister?) Beautifully acted and managing to be both thrilling and hilarious in every single episode, “Terriers” was created by Ted Griffin, writer of “Ocean’s Eleven,” who worked with a murderer’s row of talent. Consider this –episodes were written by “The Shield” creator Shawn Ryan, “The Acolyte” creator Leslye Headland, “Walking Dead” showrunner Angela King and “9-1-1” co-creator Tim Minear; with episodes directed by “Dolemite is My Name” director Craig Brewer, neo-noir legend John Dahl, and none other than Rian Johnson. Seriously. How are you not already queuing this up? [[WATCH](] Source: Apple TV+ “Orphan Black: Echoes” Sunday, June 23 at 10 p.m., AMC/BBC America This new series, created by Anna Fishko and based on the original series from John Fawcett and Graeme Manson, takes place in 2052, 37 years after the original series ended. It follows the life of a now-adult Kira Manning (Keeley Hawes), the daughter of Sarah Manning, the main character from the original “Orphan Black” series. (She was played on that show by Skyler Wexler.) Kira and her wife, Eleanor (Rya Kihlstedt) attempt to help a woman named Lucy (Krysten Ritter) try to uncover who she is. Considering the first show was about clones, we’re going to go out on a limb and say Lucy is a clone too. [[TRAILER](] “Land of Women” Wednesday, June 26, Apple TV+ According to the official synopsis, “Land of Women” is a “dramedy starring Eva Longoria as Gala, a well-to-do New Yorker, who has her life turned upside down when her husband fails to repay a debt to the wrong people. With dangerous criminals searching for her family and now vanished husband, Gala is forced to leave the city with her aging mother Julia (Carmen Maura) and teenage daughter Kate (Victoria Bazúa) to her mother’s hometown in northern Spain — a place that Julia fled 50 years ago — to start life anew and hope their identities remain hidden. But gossip in the charming wine town quickly spreads, unraveling their deepest family secrets and truths.” Sounds good! [[TRAILER](] “My Lady Jane” Thursday, June 27, Prime Video Set in the 16th century this series follows a fictionalized version of the life of Lady Jane Grey (played here by Emily Bader), great-granddaughter of King Henry VII who claimed the throne of England and Ireland for about 10 days when she was still a teenager. (She was later convicted of treason and put to death, of course.) Prime Video describes the eight-episode series as full of “true love, high adventure, regicidal maniacs, deadpan heroism, devious intrigues, swashbuckling swordfights, a soupçon of magical realism and oodles of yearning, banter and undeniable chemistry,” and hey you already finished “Bridgerton” right? [[TRAILER](] “Fancy Dance” Friday, June 28, Apple TV+ As Lily Gladstone was making the awards rounds for her astounding performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” another film of hers was struggling to find distribution. Now, finally, “Fancy Dance” sees the light of day. Co-written and directed by Erica Tremblay, the film follows a woman who devotes her free time to searching for her missing sister while caring for her niece on the Seneca-Cayuga Nation Reservation. [[TRAILER](] “WondLa” Friday, June 28, Apple TV+ Skydance Animation’s first original animated series, based on the book “The Search for WondLa” by author and illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi, is an enchanting sci-fi fable about a young girl who is raised in a technologically advanced bunker by a sentient robot. When an attack on the bunker leaves her vulnerable, she ventures out into a strange and inhospitable world. Gorgeously animated, with performances from Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett and Alan Tudyk, this is a fun-for-the-whole-family adventure that will keep everyone equally riveted.
