Her journey, however, did not end at her personal emancipation. Armed with her deep Christian faith and a rich knowledge of natural remedies, Tubman took on the formidable challenge of leading hundreds more to freedom through the treacherous paths of the Underground Railroad.  Tubman's understanding of the land and its natural resources played a pivotal role in her endeavors. It's documented that she utilized natural medicines to aid her in her missions. For instance, to ensure that crying infants wouldn’t jeopardize the safety of a group, she is believed to have used a potion crafted from naturally occurring substances to soothe and quiet them. These remedies weren’t just ad-hoc solutions; they were rooted in centuries-old African American and Indigenous practices, which prioritized harmony with nature and its healing properties.  In much the same way, naturopathy today underscores the importance of using nature to both prevent and treat illnesses. It's a holistic approach that looks beyond symptoms, aiming to treat the root cause of ailments. Just as Harriet trusted the Earth's resources to guide and protect those under her charge, naturopathy places trust in the body's innate ability to heal, given the right natural tools and environment.  This holistic view stands in stark contrast to the pharmaceutical-centered approach, which often focuses on alleviating symptoms rather than addressing underlying issues. The natural way, akin to Tubman's strategies, emphasizes balance, prevention, and an intrinsic belief that nature, in its original form, offers solutions to many of the challenges faced by the human body.  Harriet Tubman's reliance on natural remedies during her missions wasn't just about immediate fixes. It was a testament to the power and efficacy of natural methods, which were rooted in generations of wisdom. Let her journey inspire us to trust in the power of the natural world and to seek holistic, grounded approaches in our own paths to well-being.  We’ve got some great articles from the past week, including natural ways to balance your hormones (and why it’s so important in cancer prevention), tips for better sleep (and why better sleep results in better health), 5 reasons to eat fermented foods (and lower your risk for chronic disease in the process), PLUS and an update on the CDC’s latest COVID booster recommendations.  Spoiler alert: It’s a bad recommendation.  Let’s dive in…   Rebalancing Hormones w/ Raw Food – When it comes to the best way of eating for health, everyone is unique.
