Also inside: Why You Should Put Down Your Coffee! Sunday, Feb 19, 2023 Ă‚ Happy Sunday, {NAME}! Ă‚ On this day in 1945, U.S. Marines invaded the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima. It was an important strategic stronghold in the Pacific Theater, and essential to bringing World War 2 to an end. A few months later, America would drop 2 Atomic bombs on the Japanese mainland, resulting in catastrophic devastation and the subsequent surrender of Japan a few days later.Ă‚ Ă‚ The bombings also led to horrible and long-lasting public health issues. The contamination of water is one of the most severe. When living organisms happen to drink the water that is exposed to radiation, be it humans or animals, they are very likely to suffer from serious health problems.Ă‚ Ă‚ Worse still, when rivers in the cities were contaminated, the current brought the radioactive water to other parts of Japan and eventually into the ocean, spreading the radiation beyond Japan itself. This implies that even people who don’t stay in or near Hiroshima and Nagasaki will still be affected by the radiation.Ă‚ Ă‚ The contamination of soil and air is just equally horrible. When the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki exploded in the middle of the air, a high degree of radiation was emitted and carried by wind to areas beyond the cities. It then dispersed gradually and led to radioactive air contamination. Ă‚ We may be facing our own cataclysmic public health emergency here in the States. 16 days ago, a train carrying toxic chemicals went off the rails in East Palestine, Ohio. Authorities conducted a “controlled burn” of the toxins, and experts fear that the pollution resulting from the crash could impact as many as 30 million Americans.Ă‚ Ă‚ Fish, pets, and livestock are dying, the Ohio River has been contaminated, and we’re only just beginning to understand the true fallout from the wreck. We’re kicking off our Sunday Digest with an article that will explain what happened, who is responsible, why these chemicals are so dangerous, and how you can take precautions to protect your families.Ă‚ Ă‚ It’s a heavy topic, but extremely important. We’ve also got tips for using activated charcoal, an aquatic superfood for cancer prevention, little-known detox superheroes, and the pros and cons of a raw food diet.Ă‚ Ă‚ Let’s dive in… Ă‚ Ă‚ Unpacking the Ohio Train DerailmentĂ‚ – On February 3rd, a train went off the rails in East Palestine, Ohio – roughly an hour northwest of Pittsburgh, PA.
