Apple (APPL). The Department of Justice is suing Apple, threatening to go so far as to break the company up if it doesn’t change its business model. Of course, there will be years’ worth of court battles before anything happens, but like I said, it’s a dark cloud that will hang over the company for some time… [] There’s been a saying for several years now: As Apple goes, so goes the market. That may not be entirely true anymore but like I said, it will be a dark cloud over Wall Street for some time. Not only that, but market darling Nvidia (NVDA) is hosting its big [“Woodstock of AI”]( conference this week, and the stock hasn’t made much in the way of gains before Friday — it is climbing this morning, up about 1.6% during the first hour of trading. I’m no gloom-and-doom bear by any stretch, so take this as a doomsday proclamation. I say this as a warning to be extra cautious right now, don’t be a hero with longs because we are due for a pullback. I said this morning that if the market didn’t show any signs of strength early, the bears would take over. On days like this, what you want to see early on is the bulls aggressively shrug off that early downside. Because if they don’t, the bears will smell that weakness and step right in. Friday is also light as far as important economic data that can move markets, so the trading action should speak for itself. All that said, if a trader’s been riding stocks higher the past few weeks, this may be a good time to start lightening up and take some profits — this is no time to be a hero! The long-term trend is still bullish, so lightening up and then looking for better entries after some the potential sell-off I think is coming — and/or looking for shorts — is what the smart traders will do until we get on firmer footing. That said, here’s a little bonus trade idea* I gave to members of my active day and swing Trading Pit that I’d like to share with you all as a thank you just for reading and following along. Keep in mind that you’re on your own as far as exiting! It is a debit spread in Lockheed Martin (LMT)... Go long an April 5 debit call spread: Buy the $445 call and sell the $450 call. The spread was around $2 or so this morning, and your profit potential is double that. Keep in mind, the key word here is “potential.” There are no guarantees in trading and everyone must trade at their own risk. Never EVER trade more than you’re willing to lose. I hope that helps! Have a great weekend — and be sure to [join me live at 9 a.m. ET on Monday for my “Premarket Must Watch,”]( where I break down everything going on ahead of the market open! [] Roger Scott
