What’s the latest? Yesterday, Israel ended its [two-day military operation]( in Jenin — a city in the West Bank that’s home to at least 14,000 Palestinian refugees. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it launched the operation to crack down on [militants in the region]( and to confiscate their weapons. The Israeli military sent in nearly 1,000 soldiers and used drone strikes to storm the city. The violence killed at least 12 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier and forced thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes. The IDF has since pulled out of Jenin, but many are worried the violence could spiral. What do you mean? Israel has promised to continue to crack down on the region, which the IDF blames for at least 50 shooting attacks this year. Palestinians say the attack in Jenin is an excuse to expand Israeli settlements. Militant groups in the West Bank are claiming “victory” and have said they’ll seek revenge.
