Is this email not displaying correctly? [View it in your browser.]( [SHARE THIS]( [SHARE THIS]( Skimm for April 26th Skimm’d over a [wine slushy]( it’s a thing QUOTE OF THE DAY “I perform well under pressure” - An excerpt from [the Tinder profile]( the world’s last male northern white rhino. The man does not waste time. Skimm This[Like Us]( with Us]( [Insta This]( FOR THE FLYNN THE STORY Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn is [back in political headlights](. WHO’S HE AGAIN? A retired three-star Army general who, earlier this year, was forced to step down from President Trump’s team. That’s because last December, Flynn [was in contact with the Russian ambassador to the US]( on the same day former President Obama sanctioned Russia for interfering in the election. Flynn denied that he and the ambassador discussed the sanctions. BUT...?
but then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates [warned the White House]( Flynn lied. Transcripts showed that he DID discuss the sanctions, and even hinted that the new administration could lift them. Yates said this lie made Flynn vulnerable to blackmail by the Russians. Weeks later, [Flynn was out](. THEN WHAT? Flynn later offered to testify to Congress about Team Trump’s potential ties to Russia...[in exchange for immunity]( prosecution. So far, no takers. But Yates is expected to testify [next month.]( SO WHY DO WE STILL CARE ABOUT THIS GUY? Because Flynn may have done something illegal. Back in 2015, he was [paid tens of thousands of dollars in speaking fees]( Russia-linked companies. Yesterday, lawmakers said Flynn failed to get the US military’s [permission]( at least one of these deals. And then failed to disclose the payments. Flynn’s lawyer says he’s been transparent and has nothing to hide. theSKIMM Flynn was a top aide to Trump. Now, he’s potentially key to answering whether there was any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. This saga could drag on for years. Pull up a chair. Skimm This[Like Us]( with Us]( REPEAT AFTER ME... WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU’RE LATE FOR WORK AND THE TRAIN DOORS CLOSE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU
Not happening. That’s what a federal judge said yesterday when he temporarily blocked President Trump’s executive order withholding federal money from [sanctuary cities](. Those are places like San Francisco, CA and NYC where local officials refuse, in most cases, to turn over undocumented immigrants to the feds. After Trump outlined his executive order, a group of sanctuary cities sued, saying it was unconstitutional. Yesterday, a judge sided with the cities, saying the idea of taking away hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funds could cause “immediate irreparable harm.” Cracking down on sanctuary cities was a big part of Trump’s immigration plan, so yesterday’s news is a big blow to one of the first actions he took as prez.  Skimm This[Like Us]( with Us]( WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU WANT TO SHOW A NEW CO-WORKER THE ROPES... Come under my wing. That’s what luxury company [LVMH said to Christian Dior yesterday](. LVMH owns everything in the ‘splurge’ category - Moet, Celine, Hennessy, and Louis Vuitton. The company also owns the perfume part of Christian Dior’s business. But apparently LVMH wants to J’adore Dior a little more. Yesterday, the company announced it’s buying the rest of Dior’s business for around $13 billion. Meanwhile yesterday, Coca-Cola also sent a ‘Big News’ email to the whole company
[just not the good kind](. It’s cutting 1,200 jobs because sales have gone flat. Skimm This[Like Us]( with Us]( WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU SEE A BRANCH FALLING WHILE YOU’RE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK... Timberrrrr. Earlier this week, President Trump called up Canada and said ‘how ’bout we put a tariff on your timber, eh?’ The US decided to [impose a tariff of up to 24%]( Canadian lumber. Meaning as soon as a specific type of lumber from our northern neighbor crosses the border into the US, it’ll be a lot more expensive. Fun fact: the US and Canada have been fighting over this for decades. The US says Canada has an unfair advantage because a lot of their lumber is subsidized by the government. Canada says ‘erroneous.’ Critics say this could hike the cost of things like building a house in the US. But supporters say this is Trump making good on his campaign promise to cut better deals for the US. And heads up: the White House is about to [renegotiate NAFTA]( the free trade agreement between the US, Canada, and Mexico. Think of this as Trump’s way of putting his hard hat on. Skimm This[Like Us]( with Us]( WHAT TO SAY TO YOUR LITTLE COUSIN WHO’S OBSESSED WITH SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS
Check this out. Yesterday, a study came out that said [researchers have developed an artificial womb]( that could one day be used for premature babies. Instead of a womb, the fetus is put inside a clear plastic bag filled with synthetic amniotic fluid. And instead of a placenta, the fetus’ umbilical cord is hooked up to a machine that pumps oxygen. A lot of people are saying this is great news, and that it could help babies who are born early develop outside the womb. But others aren’t so sure it’s ethically OK, and think it might further complicate the debate over when a fetus becomes a human life. Right now, the artificial womb has only been tested on fetal lambs, with good results. And scientists want to test it on human babies in the next few years. Not baaaaaad.
