Skimm'd while refreshing Instagram MAY 8, 2018 Skimm'd while refreshing Instagram ------------------

Skimm'd while refreshing Instagram MAY 8, 2018 [READ IN BROWSER]( [theSkimm]( [theSkimm]( [Share theSkimm]( Skimm'd while refreshing Instagram --------------------------------------------------------------- QUOTE OF THE DAY "The League put the player on notice" - [The NHL]( on Boston Bruins player Brad Marchand. Apparently, it doesn't like when he licks people on ice. AND ANOTHER ONE The Story Last night, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman [resigned]( hours after multiple women accused him of physical abuse. He sounds familiar... Schneiderman was the state's AG since 2011. He's known for being an opponent of President Trump and filing lawsuits against the administration. Like [this]( and [this](. In the past few months, he's been a vocal supporter of the #MeToo movement and even [sued the Weinstein Company]( for not following gender discrimination and sexual harassment laws. Now, he's on the other side of it. What's the latest? Four women are [accusing him of physically assaulting them]( - including choking and slapping them without consent. Most of the women say they had been in a relationship with him at the time the abuse allegedly happened. What are people saying? Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) said 'time to go.' What's he saying? That he denies the allegations. That he engaged in "role-playing" with these women, but everything was consensual. And that he's resigning because the accusations will stop him from "leading the office's work." theSkimm Schneiderman was on the rise as a prominent political figure. His fall from grace was as swift as it was surprising. REPEAT AFTER ME... What people are watching... The border. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has a [new "zero tolerance" policy]( for people trying to cross into the US illegally. Last week, the illegal immigration debate came back into the spotlight after a [caravan of migrants arrived]( at the border to claim asylum. Now, the Trump administration is coming out with some new rules. Every person that illegally crosses the US-Mexico border [will be prosecuted](. This could end up separating families. That's because if a parent is jailed, children will be treated as unaccompanied minors and put in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services until they can be placed with a guardian. This is different than the old rules - which typically released people while they waited for civil deportation hearings. The new policy only applies to people who are arrested. Not to families seeking asylum that present themselves at official border crossings. Supporters say this will make people think twice before illegally crossing into the US. Critics say most families are crossing to flee violence and seek asylum. --------------------------------------------------------------- What to say when you close on your first house... Big day. Same for Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia - which all have [primary elections]( today. In Indiana, three Republicans - including Reps. Luke Messer and Todd Rokita - are duking it out to see who will be up against Sen. Joe Donnelly (D) in November. In Ohio, voters are saying 'bye, guvna' to term-limited Gov. John Kasich (R) and looking for a replacement. In West Virginia, Sen. Joe Manchin (D) and some Republicans are trying to get enough votes to make it to November. Including [Don Blankenship]( - a former coal mining exec with some light prison time under his belt. He also used the term ["China people"]( in an ad. A real charmer. In other things that are politically charged, Oliver North - who you know from the Iran-Contra affair and Fox News - is the National Rifle Association's [newest president](. PS: We made you [a free calendar]( with all the big primaries and candidates to watch leading up to November's midterm elections. Get it [here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- What people are talking about... Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed Al Maktoum. She's the daughter of one of the leaders of the United Arab Emirates. And has apparently been [missing for months](. Earlier this year, Latifa posted a video online saying that she's running away from home because she's being tortured. So she hopped on a yacht and fled. Authorities stopped her off the coast of India. She was reportedly brought back home. Human Rights Watch says no one's seen or heard from her in months. A gov source reportedly says she's "safe and sound with her family," but didn't give any other details. Sketchy. Now HRW is calling for the UAE to prove she's OK and "allow her contact with the outside world." --------------------------------------------------------------- What to say to your sister who watches too much "Grey's Anatomy"... Hear about this? Australia is dealing with a major increase in cases of [HTLV-1](. It's an ancient disease that's related to HIV, and spread through similar ways. One major issue around it is that people sometimes don't get any symptoms, and may not even know they have it. But HTLV-1 can cause things like lymphoma and leukemia. And now the rate of infection is skyrocketing in Australia's Northern Territory - where the indigenous population is reportedly taking the biggest hit. Unclear what the deal is. But some doctors are saying research needs to be done on this stat to make sure it doesn't spread. --------------------------------------------------------------- What to say when you hear people talking about Cardi B... [This is why.]( Last night, [the Met Gala]( - aka Anna Wintour's prom night - went down. The theme was "Heavenly Bodies." Rihanna [channeled the Pope](. Carrie Bradshaw [went big]( again. Katy Perry looked [ready to fly](. Chadwick Boseman was[in it to win it](. And 2 Chainz thought it was the perfect place to [pop the question](. SKIMM MORE Today, President Trump will let everyone know whether he plans to keep the US in the Iran nuclear deal. We recently sat down with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) - [here's her take on what would happen]( if Trump says 'bye, bye, bye.' SKIMM PICKS For your co-worker who always has a life hack to drop... Get ready to be one-upped.
