The families also announced they are suing dozens of officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Uvalde's school district. This comes just days before the two-year anniversary of a teenage gunman opening fire and killing [19 students and two teachers]( at Robb Elementary School. One parent said “no amount of money is worth the lives of our children.” What it means: The deal includes the Uvalde Police Department providing enhanced training for police officers, according to the families’ attorneys. The city also committed to supporting mental health services for the families and community members and establishing a permanent memorial. Uvalde has remained in the spotlight as the police response to the school shooting has been criticized in a number of government reports. The DOJ said it found “cascading failures” as it took nearly 400 officers [77 minutes]( to confront the shooter.
