But first: a viral denim trend that's easy to wear — Check out what we Skimm’d for you today [theSkimm Logo] [Subscribe]( [Read in browser]( April 14, 2024 Daily Skimm Header Image But first: a [viral denim trend]( that's easy to wear --------------------------------------------------------------- [Update location]( or [View forecast]( EDITOR’S NOTE Happy Sunday. Another week, another deeply hideous shoe. While I won’t be buying “[the ultimate high-fashion Croc](” anytime soon, I will be stocking up on [the new Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup shape]( — though, let’s be honest, nothing can beat the egg. Speaking of superior foods, I’m not sure how the internet is so divided over the best piece of cake, since [the correct answer is obviously A.]( And in other things that caught my eye this week: This embarrassingly accurate video of [the things ‘90s kids did when they were bored]( and [this Oklahoma family’s wild story]( of ordering an octopus as a pet — and now caring for her 50 hatchlings. Thankfully, [the whole saga is documented on TikTok](. — Melissa Goldberg / Senior Editor / Washington, DC [Deeply important information] 💉 Ready or not, the era of “[Brozempic](” is apparently on its way. 💍 Who knew, marriage pacts aren’t just something you joke about with friends. They’re real — and [they’ve actually led to love](. 🍫 Because it went so well the first time, the infamous Willy Wonka experience is returning. This time, [in the US](. Scrumdiddlyumptious. 👃 Sure, you could smell like vanilla or roses. Or, you could smell like [latex, gunpowder, and biscuits](. [I can't look away.] You would’ve thought Lenny Kravitz learned his lesson from “#[penisgate](,” but you’d be wrong. On Tuesday, the 59-year-old — who seems to age backwards — [shared a video]( of himself crushing a workout at a New York City Equinox in sunglasses, a mesh muscle tank, boots, and low-rise leather pants. Honestly, the only thing missing was [that scarf](. Of course, this is incredibly on brand for a man who has given us [decades of iconic looks](. But not since Mariah Carey hitting the gym in [fishnets and high heels]( has a workout look garnered so much attention. While many praised the decidedly Lenny gym fit (see [this]( and [this](), others debated [whether the absurdly large weights were actually real](, and [Al Roker asked the question]( we were all thinking: “How do you get leather pants off after you’ve been sweating?” Even professional trainers weighed in on [the three-in-one routine]( (the consensus is do not try it at home). Additional questions we had while watching the video on repeat: Who is this trainer in wraparound sunglasses and equally nonsensical footwear? ([Dodd Romero](, for those curious.) And how is it that none of Kravitz’s fellow gym-goers seem to notice what is happening right next to them? In [the words of one X user](, that might be “the real flex.” [Need something to watch. ] Now that women’s basketball is finally getting its due (the March Madness [viewership numbers]( don’t lie), the sport’s superstars are ready for their close-up. And [Sue Bird](, WNBA legend, five-time Olympic gold medalist, and former Seattle Storm point guard, is arguably the GOAT. The newly-streaming documentary “[Sue Bird: In the Clutch](” might not have the same nail-biting, heart-stopping moments as the NCAA tourney, but it’s an endearing, behind-the-scenes portrait of the athlete. It follows Bird’s last two seasons in the WNBA, and also touches on her decision to come out in 2017, the pay disparity in the WNBA, and the age-old question: What do I do now? [Wait, who are these people? ] [Two typically under-the-radar British royals]( have started to make a splash in the press. This week, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie filled in for King Charles III (who’s stepped back from official duties amid his cancer treatment) to lead a major royal event. It prompted reporters to ask [whether the duo are the new “chosen ones” of the royal family](. Naturally, we started to wonder who they are. So, here are some fast facts: Edward is the youngest child of the late Queen Elizabeth II. He met Sophie back in the ‘80s, and, like many royals, the two [faced plenty of scrutiny]( over their relationship. With two of the Firm’s headliners [battling cancer]( and another two supporting them, and with Harry and Megan installed in Montecito, other members of the family have been stepping up. In case you were wondering, [Edward is 14th in line]( to the throne. [What’s the midi dress we like again? ] [Abercrombie & Fitch The A&F Camille Midi Dress]( Consider this the Swiss Army Knife of your summer wardrobe. Casual wedding? This dress. In-office day? This dress (maybe with a jacket). Running errands in 99% humidity? This dress...with a ponytail. The thigh-ish high slit creates ventilation and looks a little fancy (hence the wedding guest dress potential), while the smocked back and adjustable straps will keep you comfortable. [Abercrombie forever](. [Help, I’m so old…] Wondering why so many TikTok videos start with someone applying lip gloss? Apparently, the makeup maneuver — aka, the “[lip gloss tactic](” — is one of many so-called subliminal hooks used by creators and influencers to grab attention. (To learn how to spot the others, [watch this video](.) Part of the reason it’s so successful is it mimics something you might actually do when talking to a friend in person or on FaceTime, says one psychologist. Of course, we’re going to go out on a limb here and guess it also doesn’t hurt that when you swipe on something from Dior or Rhode, people are naturally going to ask what it is. [No notes] “My gynecologist, truthfully” — [Rihanna](, on the best part of Los Angeles. [skimm picks] Trending products and brands our shopping team has been loving recently.
