Join us online and learn about modern extortionware and how to frustrate it [The Register]() Happy to pay out to ransomware masterminds? Yup, we thought so Join us online and learn about modern extortionware and how to frustrate it A free Webcast from The Register 8 June 2021 @ 9am PDT / 12pm EDT [[Local Time](20York/Paris/Berlin/Moscow/Toronto/Abu_Dhabi/Cape_Town/London)] Hello {NAME}, It's shocking how blasé ransomware-toting criminals can be about freezing the operations of any organisation they can insinuate themselves into, including critical utilities or medical facilities. But almost as shocking is how many organisations feel they have no option but to simply pay up if they want to get back to work. In fact, the FBI estimates that the amount ponied up to ransomware attackers increased ten fold between 2018 and 2020. Even worse, those figures are likely a gross underestimate given victims' understandable reticence about disclosing whether they've been stung, plus they don't take into account lost business or other costs. And, as with so many areas, “innovation” by ransomware merchants has been fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic, as they took advantage of the reconfiguring of the workforce and a thirst for news to refine both their payloads and the way they disseminate them. All of which means you should join tune in to our webcast, Modern Ransomware, on May 26 at 0900 PDT (1200 EDT). Things will be overseen by our own Tim Phillips, worth a king's ransom in anyone's money, who will be joined by Rubrik's sales engineering director Jason Cook. They'll talk through ransomware in general, how attacks have evolved to exploit the pandemic, and how the most successful organisations have also evolved to defend themselves against ransomware, confounding even the most sophisticated attackers. Tim and Jason will also ponder the future of ransomware, helping you stay ahead of the curve. And they'll explain why data protection is likely to become the most critical pillar of your security strategy and how you can put in place a backup strategy that will rescue you from the clutches of ransomware attacks. Signing up is simplicity itself. Just drop in your details here, and we'll remind you on the day. In the meantime... be careful out there.
