[THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily NEWSLETTER]( [THE POINTS GUY]( Using hotel points for stays
by Katie Genter, Senior Writer
[TPG | Hero Image] In 2023, my husband and I spent over 1,952,000 points on 150 hotel nights â and used our favorite [travel rewards cards]( to pay for many more. [We live out of hotels]( while traveling the world and working remotely as digital nomads. But you can still get significant value from hotel points even if you stay in hotels much less frequently. We maximize our points by [using multiple hotel loyalty programs](. In 2023, we redeemed: - 876,600 IHG points and five anniversary night certificates for 52 nights
- 357,100 Marriott points and 12 free night awards for 36 nights
- 340,000 Hilton points and two free night certificates for nine nights
- 226,700 Hyatt points and two free night certificates for 39 nights
- 152,000 Choice points for 14 nights
Obviously, thatâs a lot of points and free night certificates. My husband and I sign up for new credit card offers when the [bonuses are compelling](. And we tend to keep our [hotel credit cards that offer annual free night certificates]( for the long term, as we can usually get more value from the free night than the cardâs annual fee. But we also buy points with some programs when we can do so at a low cost. And although I have the [World of Hyatt Credit Card]( â which is currently offering an elevated bonus of up to 65,000 points* â I also use Chase Ultimate Rewards points that Iâve earned with my [Chase Sapphire Preferred Card]( and [Ink Business Preferred Credit Card]( as a way to fund my Hyatt account with transferred points.
