[THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily NEWSLETTER]( [THE POINTS GUY]( Ways to enhance AA's loyalty program
by Kyle Olsen, Points & Miles Reporter
[TPG | Hero Image] Itâs been almost two years since American Airlines introduced [Loyalty Points]( which have given AAdvantage members lots of ways to qualify for status with non-flight activities like using [the shopping portal]( and spending on [AAdvantage credit cards](. However, the program has faced setbacks with reduced earning opportunities, unimpressive flight accruals and lackluster [SimplyMiles]( offers. Loyalty Points have even pushed our longtime Executive Platinum member, Katie Genter, to [no longer prioritize her top-tier status](. Since American offers an impressive 4 miles per dollar on eligible American Airlines purchases through the [Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®]( weâd also like to see the airline offer 4 Loyalty Points in this spending category (instead of just 1 Loyalty Point per dollar on these charges). Similarly, it would be nice if the airline brought back its previous earning rates on [Rocketmiles]( reservations, which let AAdvantage members [earn sometimes more than 75,000 Loyalty Points]( with a seven-night hotel reservation. And [United Airlines and Marriott just offered a limited-time promotion for enhanced earnings for dual elite members]( so it would be nice to see more opportunities to earn Loyalty Points through [Americanâs partnership with World of Hyatt](. Although Americanâs elite status year doesnât end until Feb. 29, 2024, letâs see if AAdvantage members can close the gap to their statuses with the current Loyalty Points paradigm.
