by Summer Hull, Director of Content
[TPG | Hero Image] âTis the season to show appreciation for all of those around you who deliver packages, teach and coach your kiddos, help you along your travels, and more. And while cash is king for some of those folks, for others, a gift card is the most appropriate gesture. Some [credit cards are better than others for buying gift cards](. So, while you are giving to others, you can be strategic about how you buy gift cards in order to maximize the points you earn for yourself. For example, Iâve been buying Starbucks gift cards for my kidâs teachers while picking up groceries at U.S. supermarkets in order to earn 4 points per dollar* on my spending there via the [American Express® Gold Card](. Iâll likely eventually transfer those points to [Amex Membership Rewards travel partners]( to book business-class award flights or maximize a [transfer bonus](. Another popular option for buying gift cards for vendors like Starbucks, Uber and Amazon is to earn 5 points per dollar with your [Ink Business Cash Credit Card]( when buying them at office supply stores, since that type of retailer is a great bonus category on that card on up to $25,000 per year. (If you want in on that bonus category, note the card has no annual fee and is currently offering its [best-ever offer, a $900 cash-back welcome bonus that can easily be converted into 90,000 points]( for new cardholders who spend $6,000 in the first three months.) Finally, when shopping for gift cards, pay attention to any easy-to-overlook targeted offers via programs like [Chase Offers]( and [Amex Offers]( for stores that sell third-party gift cards â like Loweâs and Home Depot â as you can save money while gifting to others in that way, too. Summer * On up to $25,000 per calendar year in purchases, then 1 point per dollar. Posts in this newsletter contains references to products from one or more of our advertisers.
