Also: Big change for some Clear users: TSA will soon require you to show ID July 14th 2023 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily Newsletter]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( [THE POINTS GUY]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( Wait ... they aren’t the same thing? by Tarah Chieffi, Travel News Reporter [TPG | Hero Image] I’ve learned a lot about all things air travel during my tenure at The Points Guy, but a recent discovery left me feeling like I knew absolutely nothing about aviation. In my 42 years on Earth (no, I am not ashamed of my age), I never once knew that a nonstop flight and a direct flight were two different things. They sound the same, right? "Nonstop" and "direct" both imply that you won’t have a layover where you have to schlep yourself and your carry-on bags from one gate to another before arriving at your final destination. But I now know there is a big difference and that I have flown on nonstop and direct flights in my lifetime without ever knowing it. In short, a nonstop flight is one that flies from point A to point B without making any stops along the way. A direct flight, on the other hand, may stop at multiple airports along its route to refuel or pick up and drop off passengers. Essentially, all nonstop flights are direct, but not all direct flights are nonstop. Make sense? If not, this story on [the difference between direct and nonstop flights]( handles the topic in much greater detail, and you can deepen your aviation knowledge with these equally educational articles: - [Should you be worried about turbulence?
