Also: Military travel discounts and perks available year-round May 30, 2023 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily NEWSLETTER]( [THE POINTS GUY]( CHECK YOUR TRAVEL BOOKINGS by Katie Genter, Senior Writer [TPG | Hero Image] There are many reasons to check your travel bookings frequently. For example, you could snag [better seats]( on a flight (you can also [set an ExpertFlyer seat alert]( to be notified if better seats become available; ExpertFlyer is owned by TPG’s parent company, Red Ventures). Or you might discover the [airline has changed your flight](. But the primary reason I check my upcoming flight and hotel reservations about once a week is to [find price drops]( or better options. And good news: After watching prices steadily climb for months, I’m finally starting to catch some price drops on hotels and flights for late summer into fall. You’ll often need to cancel and then rebook to capture a price drop. But some airlines, such as Southwest, let you [re-price your flights]( via the change functionality. It’s also worth frequently checking if a hotel in a program that uses dynamic award pricing currently costs just above what a [free night certificate]( will cover. I’ve been able to redeem [IHG anniversary night certificates]( without any top-off at the [Kimpton De Witt in Amsterdam]( for two stays now by checking daily until the nightly rate dropped to 40,000 points for the dates I wanted.
