Also: Deal alert: Business class to New Zealand for as low as 62,500 miles one-way May 10, 2023 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily NEWSLETTER]( [THE POINTS GUY]( HIDDEN GEMS IN DC by Kyle Olsen, Points & Miles Reporter [TPG | Hero Image] Editor's Note: Welcome to our new daily newsletter design. We hope you like it! If you encounter any issues, please hit reply and let us know. Thank you! Between the cherry blossom-filled air and tree-lined neighborhoods, springtime in Washington, D.C., is my favorite time to visit. During my recent trip, I decided to venture off the beaten path and [discover some of the city's hidden gems](. After finishing a Sunday brunch at Georgetown's Farmers Fishers Bakers that outdid most five-star hotels, fellow TPG writer Emily Thompson and I continued to Gunston Hall. This beautifully preserved 18th-century estate offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and legacy of one of America's founding fathers, George Mason. Our visit to this hidden gem provided us with an exclusive insight into the captivating history of Colonial Virginia (without the crowded atmosphere of Mount Vernon). Next, it was off to National Harbor, and although we decided to pass on the 180-foot-tall Ferris wheel, National Harbor is great for waterfront family fun. With its many restaurants and activities, it’s a great addition to the Potomac waterfront. Try to arrive by water taxi or monument cruise from the Wharf or Alexandria, Virginia. We ended our day with a night tour of the monuments on the National Mall. Cherry blossom petals rained down on us as we walked through the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and read his quotes.
