Also: Ultimate guide to Singapore KrisFlyer [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Jan 30, 2023 CHOOSING THE RIGHT CARD PAYS … LITERALLY My current method for choosing which credit card to pull out of my wallet for different types of purchases is a sticky note in a conspicuous place where my husband and I can both reference it as needed. I’m not claiming it’s the best method, but it’s a start. Maybe someday I’ll go a little more high-tech and make a spreadsheet, but more important than the method is that you take the time to review your current card lineup and decide which card you should use for shopping, dining, travel and even your gym membership. There's even a [Card Advisor tool in the TPG App]( that shows you the card to use at nearby locations to maximize earning toward your goal. If you play credit card roulette and pull any old card out of your wallet when it’s time to pay for your purchases, you could be leaving valuable points or cash back on the table. How much exactly? [Using groceries as an example]( the [Blue Cash Preferred® Card]( from American Express earns 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 cash back per calendar year) whereas the popular [Chase Freedom Unlimited®]( earns a flat 1.5% cash back at supermarkets. That means you could earn $12 cash back by purchasing $200 worth of groceries with your Blue Cash Preferred card and only $3 with the Freedom Unlimited card. That difference of nine dollars may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but that is just on one purchase. If you spend $200 on groceries every week, that’s over $450 additional cash back you could put in your pocket by the end of the year by using the Blue Cash Preferred instead.
