Also: FAA's official statement on AirTags [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Oct 13, 2022 SPONSORED BY [TPG] WHAT I’M KEEPING AN EYE ON IN TRAVEL THIS WEEK One of the biggest things I'm looking for in the travel news orbit is today's release of U.S. inflation data, the latest signal of whether federal policy is working to bring prices down. The travel industry shouldn’t hold its breath. [Airfare and hotel rates shot up]( tremendously during the pandemic, especially toward the end of last year and into 2022. Things stabilized in the last few months to keep us from seeing the 20% (and higher) jumps we were previously noticing each month, but that doesn’t mean any of us should expect a wave of deals anytime soon. A [new Bankrate survey]( shows 79% of Americans planning to travel this holiday season are changing plans due to rising prices. Those fears may extend beyond the holiday season: A report from American Express Global Business Travel indicates global hotel rates should increase next year due to a rise in demand for in-person meetings. If there is a silver lining to all of this, it’s that Amex doesn’t think the increases will be at the same spikes seen this year. Unfortunately, that’s because many expect there's an economic downturn on the horizon. As we always say at TPG: [Book sooner rather than later]( to lock in better rates before things get even more expensive. It's also another reason to make sure you are [leveraging your points and miles]( when booking.
