Also: Travel like 007 [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Oct 6, 2022 SPONSORED BY [TPG] HOTEL STAYS LONG OVERDUE FOR A CHANGE I’m always a little hesitant to say this out of paranoia, but the last few months have finally felt practically normal when it comes to traveling: [Hotels are fully booked]( flights are oversold and reservations at restaurants at a final destination are hard to come by. Sure, it’s a little annoying to deal with crowds, but it’s also a great sight to see after lockdowns and travel restrictions. That said, I can’t help but think about what the future holds for travel, especially hotel stays (sorry, it’s the hotel reporter in me). The hotel experience isn’t all that different these days save for more [leaning into mobile features]( like contactless check-in and room keys via a hotel app. Oh, and let’s not forget about the [dwindling offering of daily housekeeping]( during a stay. But don’t expect changes to stop there. The talk in the hotel industry is that brand standards — initiatives that dictate everything from the food served in a hotel to housekeeping and even how many pillows go on a bed — are getting a tough look from all the major companies. Brand standards were relaxed over the pandemic, but expect those to come back in some new fashion over the next few months. There’s chatter of everything from foldaway furniture in guest rooms (billed as offering more-flexible space but likely meaning rooms can get smaller) to better restaurants (aka handing over food duties to local chefs) coming in the foreseeable future. Sigh, and, yes, daily housekeeping is almost certainly a goner for most stays unless you specifically ask for it. While we wait to see what the future of hotel stays might actually look like, here are a few stories that signal where things might be heading: - [The future of the hotel guest experience?
