Also: Amtrak suspends service on portion of iconic Pacific Surfliner route [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Oct 3, 2022 I'M OFF TO PARADISE It’s Monday, and that means a brand-new week. For me, it’s one that’s been highlighted on my calendar for months, as I’m heading out on PTO and making my first journey to Hawaii for a friend’s wedding on the North Shore of Oahu. (Congrats, Will and Maya!) Hawaii has always been a dream trip for me — and for many of you. The reality of visiting Hawaii is that it’s expensive, and we used as many TPG tricks and tips as possible to save money. For starters, we booked a stay at The Royal Hawaiian — [the pinkest place on earth]( — through the [American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts program]( to score complimentary breakfast for two each day, a huge savings in itself, and a potential room upgrade. To book our flights, we used [this handy guide to track flight prices]( over a series of weeks until they dropped to a price well below our budget. We also used TPG’s great hotel guides to determine which other hotels to book as we crisscross the various islands. If you’re finally ready to book your own dream trip to the Aloha State, here are more resources to guide you: - [The best ways to get to Hawaii using points and miles]( - [Book this, not that: Hawaii resorts edition]( - [The best time to visit Hawaii this year]( - [29 hotels in Maui, Hawaii, you can book with points]( I’m passing the newsletter off to my colleague, Cameron Sperance, so I can go enjoy my vacation, but [follow me on Instagram]( to keep up with my trip to paradise, plus a few other exciting journeys abroad in the next few weeks.
