Also: Labor Day weekend travel outlook [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Sep 2, 2022 A SUMMER OF TRAVEL WOES If you’ve flown this summer, there’s a chance — maybe even a good chance — that your flight was disrupted. I certainly was on a few disrupted flights. A number of factors contributed, including summer weather patterns and a surge in passengers. But perhaps nothing was as big a factor as staffing — both at airlines and at air traffic control. Those staffing issues were the result of multiple factors, including pilots taking early retirement and air traffic controllers retiring in large numbers. While it might take some time for air travel to return to normal, some things will hopefully be better by next summer thanks to airlines adding staff as well as taking new aircraft deliveries to get their fleets back up to full force. I recently went into [more detail about this for a story I wrote with some colleagues]( when travel will fully return to normal. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
