My first experience with renting a car came with Zipcar, the hourly car rental service. I was attending college in Washington, D.C., and would sometimes rent a Volvo or Mazda for two hours on a Saturday night, destressing as I drove the empty highways around Washingtonâs Maryland and Virginia suburbs. Since then, Iâve been a true believer that rental cars are a great way to explore the country and are a great choice for a road trip. Rentals usually offer unlimited mileage now, and sometimes itâs fun to splurge on an upgrade for an aspirational car. Who wouldnât like driving up the California coast with the top down on a Ford Mustang? Here are some things you should know about renting a car and taking a road trip now:
