Also: Some pilots are about to see major pay raises [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Jun 14, 2022 CAN WE CALL IT TRAVEL MERGER MANIA YET? The pandemic didn’t usher in an immediate wave of corporate mergers and acquisitions that some might expect from a downturn. However, travel companies appear to be all about takeovers and new partnerships now that we're more than two years into the pandemic. Early Monday, Choice Hotels confessed to what everyone in the hotel industry was guessing for months: It plans to buy Radisson Hotel Group Americas [for $675 million](. This comes after Hyatt paid $2.7 billion for Apple Leisure Group last year and Accor linked up with Ennismore, owner of brands like The Hoxton and Gleneagles, for a lifestyle hotel entity that now houses brands like SLS and Delano. The deal-making isn’t limited to hotels, either. JetBlue Airways and Frontier Airlines are engaged in a [takeover battle royale]( for which company gets dibs on Spirit Airlines. That comes after JetBlue and American Airlines linked up for their [Northeast Alliance]( a move aimed at giving both airlines better coverage and efficiency, though the Department of Justice is fighting against the deal in court. Mergers are not always the smoothest when it comes to [combining loyalty programs]( or just offering a uniform vision for a brand. Buckle up and prepare for what is bound to be a wild ride — odds are this is only one of many post-pandemic travel industry consolidations to come.
