Also: The best ways to use points and miles to fly from the US to Australia [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Apr 29, 2022 SPONSORED BY [TPG] WAYS TO EARN AMERICAN AIRLINES LOYALTY POINTS WITHOUT FLYING Can you drink and opinionate your way to American Airlines elite status? That is the question. If you are new here, I procured my first-ever airline status at the end of last year. Although the perks of AAdvantage's Gold status (the most basic level of the elite tiers) are minimal, I did get upgraded to first class on a regional flight this morning from St. Louis to Chicago, marking my first complimentary upgrade thus far (#winning). But enough about me. These days, there are more ways than ever to earn elite status with American Airlines thanks to its new[Loyalty Points]( program. Instead of tying elite status just to flying, it's also tied to everyday activities ranging from [shopping online]( to using an [American Airlines credit card]( to dining out. You can even make progress toward achieving AAdvantage elite status by earning Loyalty Points on a wine subscription service called [Winc, which TPG tested]( to see whether it may be worth your time and money. But as one TPG reader found out, you don’t have to buy anything to accrue Loyalty Points and get one step closer to securing AAdvantage elite status. This reader closed the gap to top-tier elite status with American simply by [taking online surveys]( in exchange for receiving Loyalty Points. On a personal note, today is my last day authoring the newsletter for a while. I'm off on an adventure, hitting four airports in as many days, as I make my way to my final destination of Paris.
