Also: A look at the newly renovated Grand Wailea Maui August 21, 2024 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily NEWSLETTER]( [THE POINTS GUY]( Earn 2 miles per dollar on everyday spending by Katie Genter, Senior Writer [TPG | Hero Image] One of the first things I learned as I became interested in [rewards credit cards]( was the value of having an [everyday spending card]( that earns more than just 1 point, 1 mile or 1% cash back per dollar spent on all purchases. Many credit cards offer [higher earning rates on popular spending categories]( such as gas, travel, dining and groceries. However, I end up having a decent amount of spending that doesn’t fall into standard bonus categories. That’s where a card like the [Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card]( or [Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card]( comes in. Both of these cards earn at least 2 miles per dollar spent on every purchase. You can [redeem Capital One miles]( for 1 cent each toward travel, which would give you a 2% return on your purchases. But TPG's valuations expect you can get 1.85 cents per mile (giving you a 3.7% return on your purchases) when you redeem your miles with high-value [Capital One transfer partners](. If you are currently earning 1 point or mile per dollar spent on some purchases — and you aren’t currently working toward [earning a welcome bonus]( or reaching a spending threshold on that card — it’s worth considering whether to add the Venture or Venture X to your wallet. Both cards currently have a [welcome offer of 75,000 bonus miles]( after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, but the [Venture Rewards is also offering a $250 Capital One Travel credit]( in the first cardholder year — making that offer worth up to $1,000.
