Plus: Best Greek cruises March 26, 2024 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily Newsletter]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( [THE POINTS GUY]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( The beach awaits ... by Sean Cudahy, Aviation Reporter [TPG | Hero Image] It’s about to get even easier to access Mexico’s beaches, thanks to a big change that happens in less than 48 hours. On Thursday, a brand-new airport in Tulum will begin welcoming the first set of flights from U.S. airlines, and TPG will be there to cover the occasion. The new Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport (TQO) technically opened in December, but that was just for domestic flights within Mexico. But that’s all about to change when American Airlines and Delta Air Lines jets touch down Thursday. United Airlines will follow in the coming days. Spirit Airlines originally announced plans to fly to Tulum but [reversed that decision in February](. The six U.S. airports with direct service are: - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) - Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) - Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) - Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) - Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) - Miami International Airport (MIA) Additional service will be added in the coming months from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The new airport will give travelers another prime beach destination in Mexico, a couple of hours south of the always-busy Cancun International Airport (CUN).
