Also: Boeing CEO, top executives to step down amid mounting quality control scandal March 25, 2024 [THE POINTS GUY]( [View in browser]( [TPG Daily Newsletter]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( [THE POINTS GUY]( TOGETHER WITH [Partner Logo]( The cards I carry and why by Sean Cudahy, Aviation Reporter [TPG | Hero Image] Like many of my TPG colleagues, I carry an assortment of [travel credit cards]( in my wallet — each with a distinct purpose. My big “points earner” is the [American Express Gold® Card]( since dining out and shopping for groceries are top expense categories for me and my wife. We take full advantage of the card’s 4 points per dollar earned at restaurants worldwide and on groceries at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000 per calendar year, then 1 point per dollar). But I also carry [The Platinum Card® from American Express](. Yes, it’s a second Amex. And yes, it comes with a hefty annual fee, but I’m able to more than offset the annual fee through diligent use of the card’s robust travel credits and statement credits, from reimbursed hotel expenses to digital subscriptions and sometimes lucrative Amex Offers. As a frequent traveler, I’m also able to take advantage of Centurion and Priority Pass lounge access at airports, and automatic elite status with both Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy. I round out my wallet with two cobranded cards: the [World of Hyatt Credit Card]( — which fast-tracks my path to Hyatt elite status, free nights and bonus points — and the oldest card in my wallet, the [Citi®/AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite Mastercard®](. Once my on-ramp to the world of points and miles, today it’s still helpful in earning AAdvantage miles and boosting my American Airlines status, thanks to Loyalty Points earned with everyday spending. I also earn a $125 flight discount each card membership year after spending $20,000 or more and renewing the card. The card has a $99 annual fee ($0 for the first year).* Here’s a bit more about each card: - [Does it make sense to hold an Amex Platinum and Amex Gold card?]( - [6 reasons I love my World of Hyatt Card and plan to keep it for the long term]( - [Best credit cards for American Airlines flyers of March 2024]( * The information for the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select has been collected independently by The Points Guy.
