Rapid Fire|
You get the call, and write the date on the calendar: JOB INTERVIEW, THURS., 11:00 AM.
You circle it. Then you go dig through the junk drawer, find a red pen and circle it again. You shine your shoes and lay out your outfit, stopping to try a few âHello, my name isâ¦â smiles in the mirror when you pass it. You practice your handshake on the dog.
Wednesday, youâre full of pre-interview jitters. You canât sleep, and when you finally do, you have that dream about showing up without pants. You wake up in a cold sweat. You get up and print out three new copies of your resume because the ones you printed last week have that âlast weekâ look.
You head to the address the hiring manager gave you, ready to smash this interview. Youâre sure youâre walking out of this thing with a job offer in hand.
And then the questions begin. One right after the other, the interviewer asks you things like âWhatâs your biggest strength?â and the even-harder-to-answer follow-up, âWhat about your biggest weakness?â She chases that with a âWhy should we hire you?â and then lays down a âWhat are your salary requirements?â Then she gets personal: âWhat are your pet peeves? Your hobbies?â
Um, sleeping?!
Yikes. This interview isnât going as well as you thought it would. After you bombed that first question, the panic set in â and now youâre growing shakier and mumblier with each successive response. In all your interview prep work, you forgot to do a refresher on common interview questions⦠and it shows.

Here are [20 common job interview questions people hear again and again â and the best way to answer them](.
WORD OF THE DAY
Job hopping (n): The practice of changing jobs or companies every couple of years as a choice rather than as a result of a layoff or firing. There are several reasons people job hop, such as gaining new skills, exploring different career paths, diversifying their resumes or securing better benefits and a higher salary.
Years ago, it wasnât uncommon for people to work for the same company for the entirety of their careers; these days, itâs not uncommon for people to leave a job for a different one every few years. Writer Cristy Salinas knew that job hopping would be her path to her dream job (and a not-too-shabby salary) so she kept her options open and moved from job to job as opportunities arose. Hereâs [how she went from earning $36,000 to earning over $50,000 in a matter of 14 months]( â and where she went from there.
