A surge of stabbings in London was blamed Monday for the city overtaking New York's monthly murder tally for the first time in modern history. Fifteen people were murdered in London during February, compared to 14 in New York, according to police figures. London also had 22 fatal stabbings and shootings in March, higher than the 21 in New York. There have been 10 fatal stabbings in London in the last 19 days, and 80 fatal stabbings recorded in the city last year accompanying a rise in the number of shootings as well as the trend continues. Perhaps they didn't quite get all of them...? "There is no single cause, but there has been a big spike in both gun crime and knife crime across London," Parliamentarian David Lammy, who represents Tottenham, told the BBC. "Certainly my constituency finds itself at the epicenter of that. There are real issues about a lack of resources." [Learn more here]( [line] New York Man Shoots At Neighbor With Civil War Cannon [ ]  Not to be outdone by those damned Brits, New York appears to have brought in the big guns... literally - with a man upstate from the city turning his artillery on neighbors to win out a dispute. To their credit, the beleaguered defenders weathered the bombardment for over a week before authorities were called in. Luckily, the neighbor was only firing off blanks, maybe to blow off some steam from the argument? The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office arrested 52-year-old Brian Malta in the rural town of Kiantone (KYNE'-tohn), on the Pennsylvania border outside Buffalo. Deputies say the cannon was fired with only a powder charge and wadding. Officials say Malta had an ongoing dispute with his neighbors, but no details were released. [Malta was arrested Wednesday]( and charged with three counts of harassment and three counts of menacing. He was released from the county jail after posting $2,500 bail. A DC clerk *and* their supervisor refused to accept a New Mexico man's state driver's license to get a marriage license because she and her supervisor believed New Mexico was a foreign country. Gavin Clarkson told the Las Cruces Sun-News it happened Nov. 20 at the District of Columbia Courts Marriage Bureau as he tried to apply for a marriage license. After approaching the clerk for a license and showing his New Mexico ID, Clarkson said the clerk told him he needed an international passport to get the marriage license. Clarkson said he protested to a supervisor, who also told him that he needed a foreign passport.
