[How early should I start looking/applying/working with a recruiter? Looking to land a new job come October.](

Hi Anonymous,
I agree with everything Alyse said - it's never too early to start. I would also add that networking is something you can do now that may help you find a job within your time frame. LinkedIn is an excellent tool to help you build your network and help you research companies and industries of interest. The Muse website has a number of excellent articles on networking via LinkedIn as well as in-person networking. Effective networking can help you find out about opportunities before they are posted and, hopefully, get your resume in front of the hiring manager early in the process.
Wishing you the best of luck,
Heidi

This is a really tough place to be stuck in. I've been there, and while it was definitely easier to clock in, do the boring work, and clock out, I tried to remember that this job would not be my forever job. One thing that kept me motivated to continue to seek out projects was thinking about the applicable skills that I could add to my resume for future opportunities.
I would suggest taking one small project to start. Bodies in motion stay in motion! I bet there's something you enjoy working on outside of your core work that you could start on your own, just for you, just for a little brain workout. That could spark more interest and a greater desire for more projects!
Keep the end goal in mind. It's always easier to move towards something if you have an idea of the desired outcome.
Good luck :)

[Is a coding bootcamp a legitimate way to break into programming? I keep hearing mixed reviews of the idea.](

The first thing to understand is there are a bunch of different types of coding bootcamps. Some cost $10,000+ and are remarkably competitive to even get accepted to (most will not accept someone who is completely new to coding, especially if they make any sort of post-employment guarantee or percentage boast). Some are a lot more affordable, i.e. $5000 or less.
Second, it's not about a CS degreeâit's about actually demonstrating you can code. Many CS grads can't code.
I have a psych degree (as well as an advanced degree unrelated to psych or technology), tons of student loan debt, and I did a coding bootcamp. I got a scholarship to complete it and did not pay anything. I am very glad I did not pay for the bootcamp, or any other bootcamp. I did a lot of things prior to the bootcamp, i.e. programming courses at community college, Team Treehouse, Udemy, etc. And with all of that learning experience combined with the bootcamp, I still don't think it's enough for most people to truly be employable. And even if you get a job, you're nowhere near ready for it, unless it's a job where the employer understands you still have a lot to learn and is willing to mentor you.
Frankly, after I completed the bootcamp, I had multiple horrible interview experiences that let me know I was not ready to be employed as a programmer. Eventually, I got my web content manager job, which does not call for much coding but knowing some HTML, CSS and JavaScript is helpfulâbut not required.
