I open and close a ton of web browser tabs throughout the day on my PC. Windows 11 amped up the tab game even further, adding tabs to applications like File Explorer and Notepad. Now, tabs are really all over the place. We talk a lot about window management on Windows, but I bet a lot of us spend more time managing tabs than we do windows. So let's talk about a faster way to manage those tabs. (Plus, I'll show you a related window-management trick, too.) ⌚ This entire email will take you two minutes to read. Remember: If you'd rather not receive these Monday tip roundups, [you can easily opt out of them](=) without affecting the rest of your subscription. ✅ [Got it — don't show this again](=) #top This week's reader suggestion 🖱️ Tabs are arguably just as important as windows on modern versions of Windows. It's easy to end up with a lot of tabs, and there's a good chance you spend a lot of time opening and closing them. This week's tip offers a quick way to close those tabs — and I've got some quick related tricks, too. 💻 This tip works on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. (It works on basically any platform with a mouse.) ➜ Windows Intelligence reader Andrew N. wrote in with a tip he's excited to share: Just middle-click a tab to close it. This works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, File Explorer, Notepad, the Terminal, and just about any application with tabs. After you close a tab, the tab to the right will slide over under your mouse cursor, so you can also middle-click several times to close multiple tabs. [The Windows mouse cursor hovering over a browser tab in Google Chrome.] ⌨️ Are you more of a keyboard person? You can also close the current tab by pressing Ctrl+W in most applications. 🖱️ Middle-clicking will also open tabs. Just middle-click a link in your web browser of choice to open it in a new tab, for example. On Windows 11 with its tabbed File Explorer, you can also middle-click a folder in File Explorer to open it in another tab. 👀 You can middle-click to close windows, too! While using Alt+Tab or when mousing over an application icon on the Windows taskbar, middle-click a window's thumbnail to quickly close it — just like you would a tab. [A mouse cursor hovered over a taskbar window thumbnail on Windows 11.] ✅ Looking for this week's Android Intelligence reader tip? It's all about doing more with Google Tasks. Bonus: You can immediately start typing to search for a setting after opening the window. 📈 Vinyl sales are making a huge comeback: Back in the 70s, the music industry sold 500 million records every single year, but by 2006, that number had dropped to less than 1 million. Which is why the world was shocked when new vinyl sales hit 40 million in 2021. Is it because of millennial hipsters, and does this mean you should dust off that old vinyl record player in your basement?
