By [Chris Hoffman](), author of [Windows Intelligence](=) You know what's awesome? A beautiful desktop wallpaper, colorful smartphone home screen background, or vibrant browser theme. It's even better when you don't have to hunt down these images yourself — instead, every day, there's something fresh and new. Something beautiful and surprising greeting you every time you sit down in front of your computer, unlock your phone in the morning, or launch your first browser window of the day. Years ago, I loved hunting down the perfect desktop background. If you love that too, that's awesome. Enjoy the thrill of the hunt. But, if you're looking for a fresh new splash of color and beauty every day — and you want to set it and forget it — these tips are for you. This is now one of the first things I set up on any device I use, from PCs to phones. #top A fresh new look, every single day Getting a spiffy new style every day is easy, but it's different on every operating system. I'll run you through a lot of them: Windows 11, Windows 10, the Chrome browser, Android, ChromeOS, iPhone/iPad, and Mac. Just scroll right down to your favorite devices! ⌚ This will take you 10 seconds on almost any device. (For an iPhone or iPad, you'll want to budget a few more minutes.) ➜ Windows 11: First, open the Settings app from your Start menu. Head to Personalization > Background and set the "Personalize your background" option to "Windows spotlight." Done! You'll get a new desktop background every day. [The Windows Spotlight option for desktop backgrounds on Windows 11.] ➜ Windows 10: Download [Microsoft's free Bing Wallpaper app](. The installer will offer to set Bing as your default search engine and home page, so be sure to decline Microsoft's generous offer if you're not interested. After it's installed, it will give you a fresh desktop wallpaper every day. You can use the Bing icon in the system tray to see where the image was taken — and switch to a new image, too. (This app also works on Windows 11, if you want more options!) [The Microsoft Bing Wallpaper app in the system tray on Windows 10.] ➜ Chrome Browser: On Chrome's New Tab page, click the little pencil icon at the bottom-right corner. Click the "Change Theme" button in the sidebar that appears, and select the type of themes you'd like — I picked Landscapes. Chrome will now give you a fresh new tab page and browser theme to match it every day. Here's the one Chrome picked for me today. Pretty snazzy, right? [Google Chrome's New Tab page with a background image.] ➜ Android: On a Pixel, you don't have to install anything — this is built right into the Pixel Launcher. To find it, long-press an empty spot on your home screen, tap "Wallpaper & style," tap "Change wallpaper," and tap the type of wallpaper you want. (I love the Landscapes.) At the top-right corner, above the grid of available wallpapers, tap the little icon that looks like a circle with an arrow around a picture — this will enable automatic wallpaper switching. You can also download [the Google Wallpapers app](=) to get a similar feature on any Android device, or try [Microsoft's official Bing Wallpapers app](. [The auto-wallpaper feature on a Google Pixel phon.] ➜ ChromeOS: On a Chromebook, right-click the desktop and select "Set wallpaper & style," then click the right-facing arrow next to the word "Wallpaper." Choose the category of wallpaper you want, and then click "Change Daily." Done! ➜ iPhone or iPad: Surprisingly, Apple has no similar feature on iOS and iPadOS. The restrictions of the platform means third-party apps can't step in — no Bing Wallpaper app here! You can have your iPhone download a fresh new wallpaper every day with Apple's powerful Shortcuts app, though it will take you a few more minutes to set up. [This guide in Fast Company](=) will show you how. ➜ Mac: You'll need a third-party app like [Microsoft's Bing Wallpaper for Mac app](. Be sure to uncheck the boxes in the installer if you don't want to Bing-ify your browser. (You'll also find other options in the Mac App Store, like the well-reviewed [Unsplash Wallpapers app]().) 💰 All of the tools mentioned here are totally free. 🕶 And they're covered by Microsoft and Google's usual privacy policies, nothing unusual. Now, speaking of shiny new things... #top SPONSORED MESSAGE Shield yourself from identity theft + fraud. Get this: Every six seconds, some poor soul falls victim to identity theft.
