So, here we are again-another would-be assassin, another media circus. Ryan Wesley Routh tried to take out Donald Trump while he was golfing in West Palm Beach, Florida, with an AK-style rifle and a GoPro camera, no less. The guy wasn't just intent on murder; he wanted to record it. Fortunately, Secret Service agents saw the barrel sticking out of the shrubbery and opened fire before Routh could act. He fled the scene like a coward but was eventually caught. Now, here's where it gets truly bizarre. Routh, with his criminal record long enough to stretch across continents, somehow managed to make himself a darling of the media. The New York Times interviewed him last year about his supposed efforts to support Ukraine's war effort. This guy fancied himself a player on the international stage-calling for Afghan commandos to fight for Ukraine, illegally moving people across borders, and tweeting at President Zelenskyy as if he were some geopolitical mastermind. The delusion is staggering. In one interview, Routh casually mentioned that a guy "needed to be shot" for not agreeing with him. Red flags, anyone? Yet here he was, hobnobbing with journalists, spinning his wild tales, and bragging about meeting with U.S. officials at the Helsinki Commission. Did any of this actually happen? Who knows? What we do know is this: Routh had some seriously dangerous ideas, and his obsession with Ukraine and hatred of Trump collided in what could have been a national tragedy. Absolutely love the Democrats trying to claim the alleged assassin's politics are unclear. Aside from his [@BulwarkOnline]( neoconservatism, he begged Biden to beat Trump just 5 months ago because - echoing every liberal pundit - "DEMOCRACY is on the ballot." Huge mystery. [pic.twitter.com/Ogf64IZ4XH]( - Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) [September 16, 2024]( But here's the kicker-the media had him on their radar for years. They gave him a platform, listened to his crazed rants, and now they'll likely play dumb, pretending they had no idea about his violent tendencies. Just like with Thomas Matthew Crooks, who tried to assassinate Trump in July, the media will twist this into a "motive unknown" narrative. Sure, Routh hated Trump-his son even confirmed it-but we'll still get the usual "we can't speculate on his motives" nonsense. So, isolated nutter is gonna be a harder sell when the NYT was happily quoting him as a sophisticated activist. [( - Mary Katharine Ham (@mkhammer) [September 15, 2024]( Second Trump assassin, Ryan Wesley Routh, was connected to Rep Adam Kinzinger through his support of Ukraine. Here he's being interviewed by Newsweek about his effort to recruit mercenaries to fight in Ukraine. [pic.twitter.com/6SnLYFkHv7]( - @amuse (@amuse) [September 15, 2024]( Meanwhile, the Secret Service has a lot of explaining to do. Two assassination attempts on Trump in less than 65 days, and we're supposed to believe these are isolated incidents? Routh's story, with its Ukraine connections and supposed government contacts, adds a whole new level of intrigue. Did he really meet with top officials? Was anyone actually paying attention to this guy's deranged plans? What are the odds that the two shooters who have attempted to assassinate President Trump are in two very distinct and different commercials? One supporting Ukraine and the other a BlackRock ad BIZARRE ? OR IF YOU WERE A BETTING MAN, YOU'D say ( fill in the blank) [( - Sara A. Carter (@SaraCarterDC) [September 16, 2024]( This story has all the makings of a [scandal](, and if history is any indicator, it won't be long before the media buries it. They'll downplay the anti-Trump angle, brush aside the warning signs, and move on. But the truth is, Routh wasn't some random lone wolf-he's part of a pattern. And if we don't start holding the media and authorities accountable, it's only a matter of time before the next lunatic tries to take a shot at Trump.
