Massive security deployment is in place all over the State. Security deployment in Bishalgarh assembly constituency augmented after reports of bomb attacks on a house. One agent of a political party was detained by villagers just after midnight for illegally entering a polling station at Bamutia in west Tripura. 2. Shiv Sena hearing continues A constitution bench of the Supreme Court commenced hearing the pleas concerning the constitutional issues arising out of the rift within Shiv Sena party between Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray groups. The hearing will continue on Thursday when senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani will make submissions for the Shinde group. 3. PM Modi to inaugurate ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ on Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate ‘Aadi Mahotsav’, a mega national tribal festival, on Thursday as part of the efforts to showcase the tribal culture on a large scale. 4. Intensive operation to clean Yamuna floodplains to be launched An intensive operation to clean the Yamuna floodplains, involving territorial army personnel, will be launched by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Thursday, the Raj Niwas said in a statement. 5. Lakshman Prasad Acharya to take oath as new Sikkim Governor on Thursday The governor-designate Lakshman Prasad Acharya arrived at Bagdogra Airport near West Bengal’s Siliguri, where he was received by Sikkim Education Minister Lunga Nima Lepcha. 6. Eviction drives in Assam, lathicharge on alleged encroachers The drive to evict “encroachers” from nearly 1,900 hectares of forest and revenue land in Assam’s Sonitpur district continued for the second day on February 15, with 12,000-odd people, who were allegedly staying there illegally for decades, left in the lurch, a senior official said. Sonitpur deputy commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra told PTI that thousands of people “illegally occupied” the forest and nearby areas for decades and the administration has decided to clear “encroachment” on 1,892 hectares of land during the ongoing exercise till Thursday. 7. China faces grilling in review of key rights by UN committee China came in for a grilling on Wednesday over its human rights record as a two-day hearing opened at the U.N. human rights office, with rights advocates raising issues like relocations from Tibet, COVID-19, reprisals against human rights defenders and a security law that sparked protests in Hong Kong. The U.N. Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights hearing on China — one of six countries before the panel this month — concludes on Thursday. 8.
