Indiaâs glorious history should be a reason for self-confidence and self-respect but âconcocted narrativesâ have created a sense of inferiority in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday at the first Veer Bal Divas in New Delhi. Veer Bal Diwas commemorates the martyrdom of the sons of Guru Gobind Singh, Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh. âThat is why the country has taken the pledge of removing all traces of slave mentality in the Azadi ka Amrit Kaal,â he said. India is celebrating 75 years of independence, and the period of next 25 years has been termed âamrit kaalâ (loosely translates to the golden period) by the central government. Prime Minister Modi had declared in January that December 26 will be marked as Veer Bal Diwas to pay homage to the courage of the âSahibzadesâ. âVeer Baal Diwas will be on the same day Sahibzada Zorawar Singhji and Sahibzada Fateh Singhji attained martyrdom after being sealed alive in a wall. These two greats preferred death instead of deviating from the noble principles of Dharma,â he had said. In his speech on Monday, PM Modi said that new India is correcting the mistakes of the older decades by restoring its long-lost legacy. âThe youth always seek a role model to learn and find inspiration. Thatâs the reason we believe in the ideals of Lord Ram, find inspiration from Gautam Buddha and Lord Mahavir, and make an attempt to live through the sayings of Guru Nanak Dev, while also studying the ways of Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Veer Shivaji,â he said. The prime minister praised the courage of the Guruâs sons during the commemoration, saying that they did not budge against Mughals under Emperor Aurangzeb. âOn the one hand there was the mighty Mughal Sultanate blinded by religious fanaticism, while on the other hand there were our Gurus gleaming in the knowledge and living by the ancient principles of India,â PM Modi said.
