Gujarat Assembly polls | Voting in 89 constituencies today Gujarat is set to begin voting on Thursday in 89 Assembly constituencies, spread across 19 districts in Saurashtra-Kutch and the southern parts of the State, with 788 candidates in the fray in the first phase of Assembly polls. Campaigning for the first phase in the BJP-ruled State ended Tuesday evening while north and central Gujarat districts continued to see campaigning as they will vote in the second phase on December 5. 2. The meeting that was scheduled on Wednesday was postponed and it was fixed for Thursday morning, Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti leader Vijay Bainsla said. 4. SC to continue hearing on GM Mustard The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed concern about the plight of thousands of women agricultural labourers in rural areas, traditionally engaged in de-weeding, who will be part of the human cost if the government permits the commercial cultivation of herbicide-tolerant crops such as GM mustard in India. The Bench has asked Attorney-General R. Venkataramani to make his submission on Thursday. 5. Jallikattu hearing continues in Supreme Court During the day-long arguments on Wednesday which continued till 5.30 PM, the bench observed after the amendment was made, the state came out with certain rules with precautions to be taken care of under the aegis of the district collector concerned. The arguments in the matter will continue on Thursday. 6. RBI’s modified digital lending norms to come in effect from Thursday The Reserve Bank’s modified guidelines on digital lending that seek to protect customers from exorbitant interest rates by certain entities and also check unethical loan recovery practices will come into effect from Thursday. 7.
