1. SC scheduled to hear over 200 PILs today including against CAA A bench headed by Chief Justice U.U. Lalit is scheduled to hear the petitions challenging the validity of the CAA whose enactment had triggered widespread protests across the country. Several PILs pending for a couple of years in the top court will also be taken up for hearing. The CJI-led bench is also scheduled to hear some other PILs including a plea filed by an organisation, We The Women of India, for creating adequate infrastructure under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act across the country for providing effective legal aid to affected women. 2. Gyanvapi case verdict today Prohibitory orders were clamped and security tightened in Varanasi ahead of the district court order today on the maintainability of the plea in the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri case. District Judge A.K. Vishvesh had last month reserved the order till September 12 in the communally sensitive matter. 3. CID arrests Sushil Mantri and his son The Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department has arrested Chairman and Managing Director of Mantri Developers Sushil P Mantri and his son Prateek Mantri in a case related to cheating people by promising flats. CID officials are likely to seek their custody today. 10. Queen Elizabeth’s coffin arrives in Edinburgh Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin arrives in Edinburgh ahead of the London funeral today, Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will travel to Westminster Hall where both Houses of Parliament will meet to express their condolences at the demise of the Queen. 11.
