Opposition VP candidate Margaret Alva to file nomination today Opposition candidate for the vice presidential poll Margaret Alva on Monday said it will be a “tough election” but asserted that in politics, the issue is about fighting the battle and not winning or losing. Ms. Alva will file her nomination for the vice presidential election today. 2. Prez poll: Ballot boxes to start arriving in Delhi tonight, most will be in by noon The ballot boxes used for Monday’s presidential election will start reaching the national capital from tonight and a majority of them would be at the Parliament House by noon, officials said. The ballot box from the Delhi Legislative Assembly as well as those from at least four neighbouring states would reach the strong room of Parliament House tonight itself. An Election Commission functionary said the ballot boxes from State capitals which have direct early morning flights for Delhi would reach Delhi by noon. 3. Row over Prophet remarks; Nupur Sharma moves SC, seeks revival of plea for clubbing of FIRs The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Tuesday the fresh plea of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma seeking revival of her withdrawn petition seeking clubbing of FIRs lodged in several states over her remarks on Prophet in a TV debate show. Sharma has also sought expunction of adverse remarks made by a vacation bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala on July 1 while refusing to entertain her plea for clubbing of the FIRs lodged. 4. Lead plaintiff begins submissions in Gyanvapi dispute to continue In the ongoing Gyanvapi mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple dispute, lead plaintiff Rakhi Singh on Monday began her submissions before a district court in Varanasi, opposing the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee’s application challenging the maintainability of their suit. Ms. Singh, who is legally represented by her uncle Jitender Singh ‘Visen’ through a power of attorney, was represented in court by advocate Shivam Gaur on Monday, who argued that their suit was maintainable and that it ought to be heard. The district court will take up the matter today. 5. One more case of monkeypox in Kerala A second case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Kerala in a 31-year-old man who reached Kannur from Dubai, via Mangalore, on July 13. Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed on Monday that one person had been isolated for treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital, Kannur, as he seemed to have typical symptoms of monkeypox and that the samples had been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, for confirmation. 6. Turkey says Ukraine, Russia, U.N. meeting this week on grain corridor “probable” Officials from Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations will most likely meet this week to discuss resuming Ukraine’s Black Sea grain exports, Ankara said on Monday, while a Turkish official said lingering “small problems” should be overcome. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – two major global wheat suppliers – has sent prices for grains and other food products soaring. It has stalled Kyiv’s exports, leaving dozens of ships stranded and some 20 million tonnes of grain stuck in silos at Odesa. 7. Nagaland govt follow-up measures after NSCN-IM’s decision on Naga political negotiation: Zeliang The all-party United Democratic Alliance Nagaland chairman, T.R. Zeliang Monday said that the State government will take follow-up measures on the Naga political issue after NSCN(IM) takes the decision on going to Delhi for further talks. The NSCN(IM) is likely to hold its meeting on the issue either on Monday or Tuesday on the issue and after it, if required the Parliamentary committee will follow it up, he said. 8. Maha CM in Delhi on one-day visit Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde left for New Delhi late Monday night, though his office has not given any reason for the one-day visit. He will return to Mumbai late tonight, the CMO informed. It will be Mr. Shinde’s second visit to the national capital since taking the oath of office on June 30.
