A day after the Punjab State government withdrew his security cover, popular singer Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on Sunday by unidentified assailants in Mansa district. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Mansa) Gobinder Singh said that several bullets hit Moosewala, 27, who was travelling along with two friends in a jeep when he was attacked at Jawahar Ke village. Mr. Moosewala was among the 424 people whose security was withdrawn by the Punjab Police on Saturday. He had fought on the Congress ticket from Mansa Assembly seat in the recent Assembly election and was defeated by AAPâs Vijay Singla. Meanwhile, leaders of the Congress and other political parties expressed shock and anger over the killing. Many also criticised the AAP government for withdrawing his security cover. âI am shocked and deeply saddened by the gruesome murder of Siddhu Moosewala. Nobody involved will be spared. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fans across the world. I appeal everyone to stay calm,â Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted. ââHe was showered with bullets in Mansa just 2 days after @BhagwantMann govt withdrew his security. @AAPPunjab govt has lost moral authority. It must be dismissed,â Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said in a tweet. BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa and former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh were also among others who criticised the State government over the murder. Govt withdraws advisory against sharing photocopy of Aadhaar with entities The Union government withdrew an advisory from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) against the sharing of Aadhaar photocopies with any organisation. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) said that the press release was withdrawn as it could lead to misinterpretation. The Bengaluru Regional Office of the UIDAI had asked people to not share photocopy of their Aadhaar card with any organisation warning of potential misuse and suggested the usage of masked Aadhaar, which displays only the last four digits of the 12-digit unique number. Further, the Ministry, in its statement, said the UIDAI issued Aadhaar card holders are only advised to exercise normal prudence in using and sharing their Aadhaar numbers. âAadhaar Identity Authentication ecosystem has provided adequate features for protecting and safeguarding the identity and privacy of the Aadhaar holder,â the statement added. Indians in Russia send relief supplies to boost President Putinâs war effort Members of the Indian community in Russia have started mobilising relief supplies as part of a nationwide movement to support Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine and strengthen President Putinâs war effort. Abhay Singh, an Indian-origin Deputy of the Kursk City Assembly, recently handed over a batch of medicines to the local commander of the Russian forces. So far, the Indian community has sent two consignments of medicines under the initiative of Disha: Russian-Indian Friendship Society. Founded by Rameshwar Singh, a leading Indian-origin journalist and businessman in Moscow, the society procured the medicines from Panbio Pharma in Moscow. Dr. Singh said the consignments were being delivered to Kursk, near the Ukraine border, and in the coming weeks, the team is planning to undertake trips to Donetsk and Luhansk, with the Russian military likely to give permission to send supplies to the local population living in the middle of the warzone. Dr. Singh said the relief supplies are being mobilised by the Indian community with help of various commercial entities that are supportive of the war effort.
