Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing people in his home state of Gujarat, said he spared no effort to serve the people of the country. Adding, during his now eight-year tenure at office, he did not allow any occurrence that would make the people hang their heads in shame. The trip is aimed at strengthening the partyâs position in the run-up to legislative assembly elections scheduled for December. The Prime Minister inaugurated a new hospital in Rajkot, where he also addressed a poll rally, before moving to Gandhinagar to inaugurate a nano urea plant. Mr. Modi told a gathering that his government has made honest attempts to build the India that Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel envisioned. During his address in Atkot, the Prime Minister spoke about welfare measures undertaken by his government since coming to power, particularly the granaries that were opened for the poor and free rations disbursed during the pandemic. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had secured 99 seats in the 182-seat legislative assembly in 2017, with rivals Congress 77 and Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) securing 2 seats. The NCP and independent candidate Jignesh Mevani secured one seat each. The Congress recently suffered a setback with the Patidar community leader Hardik Patel exiting the party. He said the party had not been able to present a clear roadmap to the people. The outfit is now looking for a replacement in another Patidar leader Naresh Patel who is yet to make up his mind on entering politics. Newest entrant in the stateâs electoral landscape, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), looking to continue its victory run from Punjab, has promised 200 units worth free electricity to each household should they come to power. Their national convenor has also shared stage with BTPâs Chhotu Vasava suggesting their commitment to âstateâs poor peopleâ. The BJP, this time around, aspires to achieve more than 149 seats in the assembly â outdoing the record number secured by Congress leader Madhavsinh Solanki in 1985.
