1. Perarivalan pardon case: SC to give verdict today The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce its judgment today on whether the Tamil Nadu Governor was right in referring Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict A.G. Perarivalanâs plea for pardon to the President without taking a decision. Very early in the case, a Bench led by Justice L. Nageswara Rao gave the Centre a choice between allowing Perarivalan, who has served over 30 years of his life sentence, to be released or argue the case and eventually get a judgment on merits. The Centre had chosen the latter. 2. Finland, Sweden to submit NATO membership bid today: Stockholm Finland and Sweden will submit their bids to join NATO together on Wednesday at the military allianceâs headquarters in Brussels, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said. 3. Rains continue in Kerala, Orange alert in nine districts The IMD on Tuesday issued an Orange alert in nine districts in Kerala for today while it issued the same for seven districts on Wednesday indicating heavy rainfall. Even though the Red alert, which indicates extremely heavy rainfall, issued in the last few days at various districts has been withdrawn, various weather forecasting centres in the country have predicted isolated heavy rains across the state. 4. Court removes advocate commissioner for leaking Gyanvapi information to media A Varanasi court on Tuesday removed the original advocate commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra from his post in the video inspection commission of the Gyanvapi Mosque for leaking information to the media through a private cameraman. It also granted the two remaining court commissioners two more days to submit a report on the videography on the mosque premises and the Shringar Gauri Sthal outside its western wall. The court will hear the applications on Wednesday. 5. Class 11 exams suspended in Assam due to flood The Higher Secondary first year (class 11) examinations in Assam starting from Wednesday have been suspended partially due to floods and extensive damage caused by heavy rains in the last few days. 6. Couple moves Bombay HC seeking nod to complete surrogacy procedure A couple on Tuesday moved the Bombay High Court seeking permission to complete a surrogacy procedure they had initiated in a city-based hospital before the new Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Act came into effect. The plea was submitted before a vacation bench led by Justice N W Sambre seeking urgent hearing, and it will be heard on Wednesday. 7. Delhi civic bodies set to be dissolved in 5 days, SDMC term ends today BJP-ruled civic bodies in Delhi are set to be dissolved in the next five days, with the South Delhi Municipal Corporationâs term set to end on Wednesday. According to the Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2022, the central government will appoint a âspecial officerâ to run the new unified civic body until the first meeting of the corporation is held. 8. Stopped from entering capital, Punjab farmers sit on protest near Chandigarh-Mohali border Punjab farmers sat on a protest near the Chandigarh-Mohali border on Tuesday after being stopped from heading to the state capital to press the AAP government with various demands, including wheat bonus and beginning paddy sowing from June 10. A farmer leader said they do not want any confrontation with the state government, but they will have to break the barriers and move towards Chandigarh if their issues were not resolved. 9. KKR eye big win to keep slim hope alive, LSG look to seal play-off berth Kolkata Knight Riders need a big win in their final round-robin match to keep their slim IPL play-off hopes alive, while Lucknow Super Giants will look to seal their position in the top four when the two teams face off here on Wednesday.
